Hi Steve and welcome!Hello all.........
Just finished reading this great thread and I have a strong urge to get an Ultradeck to mount my Sumiko Songbird Low on. It is currently on my Harman Kardon T-60C Floating suspension table. I love that table and it's the only one out of four decks I have setup that's NOT a linear tracker. The HK has been with me about ten years now, and has a new belt, all feet are in good shape holds speed perfectly and sounds great! But I really want to see if a modern high end deck will improve my playback experience. The other decks are Yamaha PX-3, Technics SL-10, and SL-7. All work beautifully and I absolutely love them but.......................................
I have a Musical Fidelity M1 Vinl and my vintage Luxman C-02 preamp with phono stage that uses a step-up transformer on the MC side. Love the sound of that one.
Will the MOFI be a good/significant step up for me...????
Thanks for the help.
Steve
@Iramack - feel free to shoot me a PM! I can point you to the dealer I worked with, and I’m also happy to host for you to audition mine as well. Just let me know!Hi Steve and welcome!
That’s a nice collection of turntables. The Technics SL-10 catches my attention right off, but as you know, the availability of P mount cartridges has dwindled greatly over the years.
My gut feeling is that you’d hear a big step up over the H/K T-60C. If that were mine, I’d put an Ortofon OM40 on it as the OM is what that table originally came with and the 40 is the top offering in that line.
In your case, I’d recommend an in person audition. @displayname lives in your neck of the woods and was able to audition one before he brought it home. He can point you in the right direction.
Thanks everyone for the quick response!! I'm away from home until Saturday night but I will definitely follow up on all the offers.@Iramack - feel free to shoot me a PM! I can point you to the dealer I worked with, and I’m also happy to host for you to audition mine as well. Just let me know!
Don't you know, VPI insignia requires a 250% upcharge!I use this little crosscheck bubble level on my platter. It's easier for me to use than a 6" level because I can check for "level-ness" when the platter is turning. $4 at my local hardware store, $10 for the "VPI" version from Music Direct!

$1999 is the old price. It starts at $2500 now so that’s a bonus. Thanks everyone for the quick response!! I'm away from home until Saturday night but I will definitely follow up on all the offers.
Any thoughts on my Sumiko Songbird cartridge mounted on the potential new UD?
I found a good deal on a UD at Abt for 1999.00 without cartridge. Don't know if they are an authorized dealer and what the warranty situation might be if not.

But what if I told you that the air in the bubbles came directly from the lungs of Sheila and Harry Weisfeld?Don't you know, VPI insignia requires a 250% upcharge!
Yes I have just been delivered at home my new Geodisc and I have many different protractors and a good digital scale to boot. I'm one of those in the camp that looses sleep worrying about proper alignment etc. Since it's my only Conventionally "hung" turntable I'm obsessing. The Sumiko was a new addition to the stable, replacing a Denon DL-304. My Yamaha is running a Ortofon Quintet Black into my Luxman pre phono stage and it sounds superb!! Well to my 65 year old ears anyway. lol The SL-10 is currently running the latest version of the Ortofon P Mount.$1999 is the old price. It starts at $2500 now so that’s a bonus.
I think the Sumiko will be a good match. You’ll need a way to align the cartridge and set the tracking force as these devices are not included with the turntable.
Welcome to the MoFi club!!!!That would be me and I am PUMPED!
I hear @Manzig is getting me hooked up with a custom "Member's Only" windbreaker too...
This is the kind of stuff that keeps this place the best audio forum. Awesome people.@Iramack - feel free to shoot me a PM! I can point you to the dealer I worked with, and I’m also happy to host for you to audition mine as well. Just let me know!
@KevetchaMoFi GeoDisk works a treat if you don’t feel like shelling out for a Dr. Feickert protractor.
no, but I read a lot of Douglas Adams growing up.@Kevetcha
