MoFi UltraDeck / StudioDeck Owners and those interested

I found a good deal on a UD at Abt for 1999.00 without cartridge. Don't know if they are an authorized dealer and what the warranty situation might be if not.
If the Abt you are referring to is this one (https://www.abt.com/) yes they are an authorized dealer. I live right by their store and have made several purchases there, but not for home audio. Mainly appliances and TVs. I would call to check on what their warranty situation is for this specifically. I will say that their customer service is top notch generally.

Another question for the group that runs more than one deck......................

How do you decide which one to play records on? I am worried that if I get a UD and I am amazed by the sound difference, I won't want to play records on my other tables. They will just become relics of the golden age of vinyl...................

I run two and can switch between them at the press of a button and just switch back and forth. I do lean to one table for more mellow stuff and the other for more paced music. To me the switching back and forth is a lot of fun and keeps things moving along. I’ve always got a record on deck!!

Yes I can switch between the three with just a couple of button/switches pushed. I like that my M1 Vinl can accomodate 2 and thus I run one MC and one MM through it. The Luxman just takes the PX-3 with Ortofon Quintet Black on the MC setting.

Cheers

Gear up your eBay account...

But seriously, my two turntables are in separate set-ups in different rooms. I have one in my office and one in my living room.

“Gear up your eBay account”

I need help with this one. Can’t seem to get the reference. Lol
My bad - wrong text quote. I was responding to "I am worried that if I get a UD and I am amazed by the sound difference, I won't want to play records on my other tables. They will just become relics of the golden age of vinyl...."

I still have two old turntables I don't use. I must have forgotten my account password.

So is a little motor hum normal with these? I thing I can hear listening to music but just getting the barometer readjusted.
What cartridge? What phono stage?

You mean audible mechanical hum from the motor or hum you can hear through the speakers?

Hum from the motor. Everything else is powered off. Nothing I can really hear once I step back from the table.

Oddly enough you made me check for hum through the speakers when everything is going, which there is. It I quickly traced that to the Pho8 units being stacked since this table it like 8 inches wider than the Orbit. I’ll need to do some shuffling to fix that.

I don’t have any motor hum. When you rearrange, put the PHO-8 power supply to the left of the other box, at least 4” away. This locates the transformer farther away from the audio circuits.

This just in from Abt...........

Answer:

“Steven, yes we're an authorized retailer and the unit does come with a 1-year warranty. You can request it to be double boxed. Have a great day!”

All that's left is for me to justify pulling the trigger.................aaargh!!

That’s what I do too. My Thorens is in my office and UD is in my living room with the Lintons. The office turntable is for more passive listening—i spin records often while I work. Living room is for when I want to sit down and listen to a record without distractions (or when we have friends and family over).
