MoFi UltraDeck / StudioDeck Owners and those interested

Hum from the motor. Everything else is powered off. Nothing I can really hear once I step back from the table.

Oddly enough you made me check for hum through the speakers when everything is going, which there is. It I quickly traced that to the Pho8 units being stacked since this table it like 8 inches wider than the Orbit. I’ll need to do some shuffling to fix that.
The motor makes a quiet humming sound but it shouldn’t be anything you’re hearing from a listening distance.

Oh yeah. As soon as I step back a foot or two I can’t really hear it.

My main issue now is finding the real estate to separate the Pho8 units enough to stop the speakers having a low level hum. Might be time to relocate the Node or find a better piece of furniture for all the bigger equipment.

I'm in the "find a new piece of furniture" for my main setup mode now myself. I've been in it for about a year now haha. We kinda want to buy something for long-term instead of temporary. My setup is in our living room and needs a specific size cabinet. also want to be able to close or slide the cabinet doors to hide all the equipment when it's not in use. so the options have been pretty limited and a custom piece of furniture is out of my budget right now. Been keeping an eye on estate sales + flea markets but haven't found something yet that my wife approves of (or much i have liked either). she's the boss!

Take a look at Etsy. I don’t know your budget, but I have seen interesting vintage options there.

i've looked there too but have been limiting to near my area so i can pick it up. shipping for furniture can be prohibitively expensive! i might broaden my searches there too. thanks!

we're going to a huge flea market in massachusetts in may so hoping i can find something there!

Couldn’t resist hooking up the ART9xi that I got from @VMPKJ to the MoFi today. Planned to wait a few weeks since the MP500 still has less than 75 hrs on it but whatever.

Gotta say, that for a fixed shell table the MoFi is pretty easy to do cart changes on. After about 30 minutes of setup I fired her up and threw on a very familiar album that I had cleaned and listened to last night with the MP500.

Initial impressions are that the ART9 is somehow both incredibly smooth, and incredibly dynamic. I feel like the instrument separation is slightly better than the MP500, and the soundstage seems deeper rather than wider.

Not disappointed at all. 2E4779F5-88B0-4FD7-B4CC-C9EF59AB38A8.jpeg

As we discussed privately, the A/T ART9 series is the only audio product I’ve ever seen with universal praise.

A/T offers a lot of value no matter the price range. I’m on my 5th A/T now, and have never been disappointed.

Maybe a long shot, have you had an OC/9? I've got an OC9/III and liked it enough to grab another before they became scarce. I also had a MLX150 and didn't like it, great highs and nothing else. Anyhow, if you have had one, how do they compare?

Guilty as charged. I had an OC9/II that I dearly loved. I should have gotten another when they were $349. What a lovely cartridge.

I never heard anything good about the MLX150. I never heard one, but heard they were bright. That’s a hard pass for me.

I’ve had a number of MCs- Dynavector, Denon and A/T. I spin so much that I don’t want to mess with trade ins, re tips or rebuilds. I’m camp user replaceable stylus all the way.

I Really Really Really want to......................................Dammit all !

Update...................So I got my Geodisc and used it on my HK deck. Turns out I was a bit off on my overhang and my alignment by a smidge. Got that all sorted out and the table is singing with the Songbird Cartridge!
So nicely that I decided to spend my 2K on a new Rogue Audio RP-1 preamp. The Luxman sounded good but I wasn't sure all the caps and such were still in spec etc. At 37 years old I decided to retire it. Also one of the other reasons was the new preamp has a great "transparent" Home Theater bypass whereby if the preamp is powered off, the Front L+R are passed straight thru to the power amp! No buttons to push or switches to switch! Up until now I had to power down the AMP and swap interconnects. PITA! Anyway it's due today but I wanted to thank everone who chimed in for the knowledge and advice regarding the Ultradeck. Steve

We’re moving and yesterday I had to box up the Ultradeck and I accidentally got a tiny bit of grease on the top of the platter and the bottom, right next to the spindle bering(?), on the really ruff part that is impossible to wipe off. I wiped off the grease of the top but there was a shiny stain before I packed it away.
You can’t clean platters, right?

I mean, it's rubber. Not a delicate material. Shouldn't be any issue to wipe the thing with a little bit of soapy water and dry it.

You can soak up oil spills in the garage with regular cat litter. If you can take off the platter, might be worth a try.

The UD platter is Delrin, which is a plastic. Based on an internet search, a small amount of Dawn shouldn’t cause any issues or leave any residue. I’d probably do some more homework before I started to go at my platter, but that was my initial thought as well.

I used to work at the DuPont plant that made Delrin. You cannot damage Delrin with Dawn and water cleaning. One of the biggest uses of Delrin when I worked there many years ago was for roller blade wheels.
