Movies

Semi-related to Memoria: when the movie ended, a couple people applauded, and several others audibly groaned or hissed. The person behind me grunted “yeah, like Tilda Swinton is here in the audience to hear your appreciation.” There’s a recent insurance commercial where someone shuns a movie-clapper as well. Is movie clapping a faux pas these days? I’ll clap, but usually if several others are as well.
I've seen it mocked online, but never heard anyone complain about it in person. Trends and such though. People like to complain about harmless things.

Hooptober challenge rules are up on Letterboxd! Currently building my list in private mode, but will share when it's ready. The watchathon begins September 15!

Anyone else partaking? This will be my third year.

Rules/criteria set by the creator/host are here:

If I try it I’d have to start soon; I’m just not a movie-a-day guy no more.

That's the challenge creator/host's list which lists all the rules/criteria. We saw World's Fair recently and loved it! Coming to HBO Max on Sep. 1.

(I'm like 95% done with my list and will post maybe tomorrow.)

Here's what I've set myself up for with HoopTober. This'll likely be my jumping off point for the 61 Days of Halloween thread, which I'll probably fill in with more mainstream franchise blindspots.

My movie theater didn’t die!! They are participating in the Studio Ghibli Fest 2022. We watched Only Yesterday which was a beautiful movie. I really enjoyed it because it was a very subtle, quiet movie. I really enjoyed the breathing room the film gave you to just enjoy it visually. Next month they are playing Howls Flying Castle so we are going next month for that one.

I'd love to see some of those on the big screen. Never had the chance. I didn't realize they did that sort of thing so I'm gonna have to check and see if anywhere near me is participating.

Only Yesterday is a top 3 Ghibli film for me. The ending always wrecks me.

looks like they're showing them here too. might need to catch some too. I watched spirited away last time they did showings a few years back.

The ending made me tear up some but I couldn’t let myself get too overcome because I had kids with me. This was the first time I had seen Only Yesterday and it’s definitely up there as a potential new favorite. It’s such a sweet and lovely film.

They are showing one film a month and Spirited Away is at the end of October. I really want to see that one on the big screen.
