A recent appearance in my music feed led me to a new Netflix original, The Chalk Line. This Spanish mystery thriller features a score by composer Snorri Hallgrímsson (who was music coordinator on Broadchurch). If you dig Icelandic droney vibes and oppressive thriller media, The Chalk Line (aka Jaula) may be just right for you! For bonus hype, it's produced in part by Alex de la Iglesia (dir. Perdita Durango, The Last Circus, and The Day of the Beast).

Followed it up with Netflix's new Polish religious horror Hellhole by the director of Nobody Sleeps in the Woods Tonight 1+ 2. Solid visuals with a clear budget, but it's a boring and predictable slog up until the last few moments.

My disappointment is probably underscored by the fact that I watched a similarly themed found footage movie just last week called The Devil's Doorway (free on Tubi) that was a whole lot more satisfying and done on a shoestring budget in Ireland. Give that one a go instead.

The first time i saw this i hadn't the foggiest what was going on. Let's see if i'm sharper this time around lol

If not, it's still a great film. Very few directors can make a film that leaves you completely confused during/afterwards while still thinking it's amazing and David Lynch is probably the best of the bunch.

I feel like I have less of an idea what's going on every time I watch it. And I'm okay with that.
At half a dozen or so viewings between '98 and '04 I don't think I ever managed to figure out what the fuck?! But I loved it every time.
Now that it's been almost 20 years, I should probably watch it again.
Also, amazing soundtrack.

Right!? He doesn’t hold our hand by explaining eveything, he just moves the story along and then ends it. We’re basically all Homer Simpson lol

Also, I didn’t become much wiser to what goes on in the film haha

Did you also just hear Sims & Newman rate it at #1 and #2, respectively, and think to yourself "FINE, I'll watch it" ?
Surprisingly no, I held off on the episode until just last night! I’ve had it, A Clockwork Orange, and Full Metal Jacket sitting on Plex for years, and the new mini was the motivation I finally needed to get around to them. At least, that’s what I’m telling myself. Haven’t done Clockwork or Jacket yet.
