Always been a huge Star Wars fan and would watch the Prequel Trilogy quite often but started liking them less and less and eventually just stuck with the Original Trilogy (and then Sequel Trilogy and spin-off) so i think i've only seen them twice over the last 10-12 years. But this time i'm gonna watch them all, PT included. There's some good things (Podrace, Duel Of The Fates, overall story) and some bad things (acting, JarJar Binks, too much CGI) and just an ok movie.

It's possible I'm just nostalgia blind but I've always had a soft spot for the prequels. I acknowledge they definitely have flaws, though that's true of all three SW trilogies. Revenge of the Sith is still my personal favorite Star Wars film.

Plus after seeing how the recent trilogy shit the bed in terms of direction, I've come to respect that, for better or worse, the prequels at least had a consistent artistic vision behind them.

The prequels had a story to tell but botched the execution while the post-trilogy was completely superfluous but the filmmakers made better choices in telling the flimsy story they had.

The Rise of Darth Vader it could have been a Breaking Bad-esque story of a golden boy turning to the dark side. They spent too much time focusing on Anakin as a young kid. The first movie does not add enough to the story justify its existence. I know Star Wars isn’t The Godfather but the Godfather (heck, even The Joker) proves you can tell the story of a seemingly good person being corrupted into a monster within a film without making the turn seem stilted and unearned. They needed a whole movie that primarily focused on Anakin and Queen Amidala relationship. Their relationship felt like an afterthought for two and a half films and then they want audience to buy in to his tragic loss as away to justify his turn. There is so much wasted potential in the prequels.

The post-trilogy was pointless but storytelling within the context of that pointless story was more in line with the original trilogy. Problem is why watch a lesser quality copy when the original is there and is better in every way.

I'd say the problem was J.J. Abrams, but I know that might start some arguments.
Not with me. The real culprit was Mickey Mouse paying $4 billion for Star Wars and needing a flagship movie trilogy to launch their OP. the story of the Skywalker’s had already been successfully told. Abrams isn’t anything special but there isn’t really a story there that needs to be told.

We watched Strange World on Disney+ this morning. Hands down one of best they've done in a while. The creativity and visuals are astounding. The characters could have used a bit more development, as it relied on the visual aspect a lot but they were so good that it didn't really bother me. I'll definitely watch this one again.
The family really liked this one. I found the plot twist about
the immune system quite nice
and liked the fact that one of the major characters is a gay teenager, whos first crush on another boy is just effortlessly integrated into the story and is perfectly normal for anyone.

There's some nostalgia when watching them but not nearly enough to pick them over any of the new movies, Rise Of Skywalker included lol

Here are my top 10 favorites of the year...

1. Nope (easily the film that delivered on every front I want a film to deliver on)

2. Bones And All (underrated favorite, still just incredible atmosphere and ending)

3. Everything Everywhere All At Once (still an absolute blast to watch, but there's also so much more to it than just that)

4. Decision To Leave (not just recency bias, this is a truly amazing film)

5. Pinocchio (Guillermo del Toro - best animation of the year)

6. Babylon (I'll be the one person who loves this movie)

7. Turning Red (best Pixar in a while)

8. Aftersun (jesus, it's heartbreaking, but so beautifully made)

9. Tar (I couldn't get it out of my head, and it gets better returning to it)

10. Avatar: The Way Of Water (one of the most fun, immersive theater experiences this year)

Other ones I really loved:

Marcel The Shell With Shoes On
The Menu
Weird: The Al Yankovic Story
The Banshees Of Inisherin
