Movies

I’m a Chazelle defender, so I will eventually see Babylon, but it certainly seems like a big swing.
I am too, I don't think he's made a bad film yet (though I do think La La Land is a tad overrated, and First Man may actually be is best). This is something else though.
I think it’s really good 🤷🏻‍♂️ I like how indulgent and messy and angry it is
I didn't dislike it, but I'm also not sure it was good. A mess, indeed, but lots of great stuff and big ideas still in there. Feel like it may be a grower (or just fall off, who knows).

Still not sure how I feel about this one but I think I may really like it/love it even though I think the ending fell flat. Excited to rewatch this but the spectacle of it all made it a great theatre movie for me

I made a tentative list of my 10 favorite movies of 2022 over on Letterboxd. I still have yet to see many of the year's more acclaimed films, so I'm sure this list will change over time.
Turning Red!!! I really like that one! I need to see Pinocchio.

Me n my movie friends have a rule where we finalize our movie lists through the end of Jan, and everything that releases after that counts for next year

Off the top of my head, here are some movies I loved this year:
Top Gun Maverick
EEAAO
The Menu
Barbarian
Emily the Criminal
X
Banshees of Inisherin
Glass Onion
Confess Fletch
The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent
Prey
Ambulance
Jackass Forever

Movies I really disliked:
The Batman
The Northman
White Noise

Movies I want to see asap:
The Woman King
Tar
Nope
Pearl
Babylon
All Quiet on the Western Front
RRR

I remember seeing a tweet a while back that suggested going through each month and picking the best movie that you watched for the first time that month. I thought it sounded like a fun idea so I used Letterboxd to look back through my first-time viewings this year and this is what I came up with:

January: Silence (2016)
February: Nightmare Alley (2021)
March: The Batman
April: The Northman
May: The Devils (1971)
June: Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe
July: Michael Clayton (2007)
August: The Night House (2020)
September: Mad God (2021)
October: The Invisible Man (1933)
November: The Curse of Frankenstein (1957)
December: Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio

I’m trying to finalize my top 10.

I just watched Decision To Leave today and loved it a lot.

Edit: so I signed up for 3 months of Mubi for $1 to watch it. And they just sent an email saying I can send a link for the film so someone can watch it for free. If you want it, just let me know here and I can message it to you!
