The Joaquin Phoenix Story
I watched that clip hand have no idea what the fuck is going on.

The Wikipedia page says it’s a Horror/Comedy [yikes!] then goes on about dual realities, a surreal journey, and an overbearing mother. Sounds like a lot. Not sure in a good or bad way. The cast seems filled with Broadway actors too.

Ha, wonder if it has to do with popular prevalence of low-grade horror comedies like the Scary Movies (besides #3, ofc)?

I think this year's looking pretty good for Horror Comedy with M3gan, Renfield, etc.
Last year was also a decent year for horror comedy imo (and horror in general). Barbarian and The Menu were two of my favorites of the year.

M3GAN looks like a lot of fun but it's also probably the kind of thing I'll wait to watch until it hits streaming. I finally got around to seeing Smile last night via Paramount+ and had a good time with it even if it wasn't anything groundbreaking.

if you’re interested, I have the Director’s Cut on my Plex. I liked the theatrical cut a lot but the DC is an improvement by all accounts. (I haven’t yet watched it)
@kvetcha to the rescue!

Speaking of, big thanks for putting the DC of Doctor Sleep on there. I wanted to see it for a while but was waiting until I could watch the (supposedly superior) director's cut, so it was nice to finally cross that one off my list.

Nah, I consider those more parodies and there really isn’t much “horror” in those. I usually find that when something is intentionally trying to do more than one thing stylistically they often fail at both. Obviously their are exceptions for everything and maybe this will be more Rage Against The Machine than Kid Rock but I tend to proceed with caution when I read descriptors like Rap-Rock, Dramady, or in this case Horror-Comedy.

I prefer the Doctor Sleep DC! It has more room to breathe than the theatrical cut, and I enjoy the chapter structure.

Fair! The dividing lines are so blurry most of the time anyways. Comedic undercurrents seem intrinsic to a lot of horror (perhaps to ensure palatability), but that's also subjective to one's sense of humor. Totally get what you mean though. Comedy in horror doesn't necessarily equate to Horror-Comedy, and I think Horror-Comedy also falls short as a descriptor for anything that would qualify as Black Comedy. Hoping Aster leans one way more than the middle.

I've never seen the theatrical cut to compare it to, but I enjoyed the DC quite a bit. It makes me curious what got cut for the theatrical version because it was a pretty tight three hours if I remember correctly. Great pacing & flow and everything felt like it had a purpose to it. Can't imagine just randomly hacking 30 minutes of footage out of it but I guess that's why I'm not a bigwig executive 🤷‍♀️

Ant-Man doesn’t really look much different from all the other shit Marvel has pumped out the last few years.

Ah, but he makes stuff go boom while being very tiny, whereas the others make stuff go boom while being normal sized or big, so it's totally different.

Also, I don’t think they said multiverse in the trailer so it’s definitely different from the others.

Personally, I'm way the fuck excited! Moreso than all of the Phase 4 movies combined, other than Black Panther.

While the Infinity Saga had the "never been done" excitement to it, I'm way more excited by the prospects of Kang as a villain than Thanos. And Jonathan Majors only continues to make me more and more so with each new bit of footage.

I understand and respect the superhero, or Marvel, fatigue some may be feeling but I'm way stoked!

Probably in my top 10 of the year. The core of the movie is less slice of life and more of a romance. A twisted one, but that's his MO lately.
Are you talking about millennium mambo? That one is pretty old. Although they just did a 4k restoration

Decision to Leave
Ah got you. I was saying Millennium Mambo was like a slice of life type movie not Decision to Leave. I would hope Decision to Leave was not like a slice of life 😂
Also would say DTL is one of the better 2022 movies I watched (although I watched this year).

New Ari Aster film!

Man Joaquin Phoenix looks like he added quite a few years since I last saw him. Not sure in what maybe Joker?
