Movies

Going from the first Ouija to Ouija: Origin of Evil has to be one of the biggest upgrades in sequel history. Despite being connected to such a mediocre movie, it's honestly one of the better PG-13 horror films that I've seen.
Ouija was one of the blandiest bland movies out there. Absolutely groan-worthy. Leave it to Mike Flanagan to find a story worth telling in a prequel.

I had seen it once before years ago and could remember most of it except the final 20 min or so. I had absolutely no recollection of any of that so it was a bit like seeing it for the first time.
I enjoyed the music and some of the visuals more than the movie as a whole. Jeff Buckley -“Lover, You Should’ve Come Over”, Radiohead - “Everything In It’s Right Place”, Beach Boys - “Good Viberations”, Spiritualized - “ Ladies & Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space” are some of my all time favorites.

I’m not super well versed in anime or anything. Mainly I love Studio Ghibli, and the guys who wrote this book had a podcast covering all Ghibli films (and then a book). This one goes deeper into anime features so I’m hoping to find some stuff I’ve never seen before in here. Right now I’m still early into it so the films all seem pretty simple.

Long gone is the Neil Marshall who gave us Dog Soldiers and The Descent. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but The Lair only continues his downward trend from Hellboy and The Reckoning.

i watched the big short on the plane ride home today, i had never seen it before and only knew that it was about the housing crash. i was pleasantly surprised by the overall presentation including the 4th wall breaking and random cameos, and those style choices are really what elevated the movie for me. it was really enjoyable... then there's the scene at the end where pitt's character scolds the two younger traders for celebrating their success when their success means a ton of people are absolutely fucked, and i just thought that was brilliant- like, i've just enjoyed the last 90 minutes of this movie, which made it real easy for me to root for these guys, yet doing so completely ignores what devastation is coming when they do succeed. the movie got me hook, line, and sinker- of course there is no happy ending here. also, the music chosen for this was great.
