Movies

Honestly don't know what to do with the information that I, someone whose film intake is approximately 90% horror films and superhero movies, apparently puts more effort into this shit than some actual registered Oscar voters.

I adore both of the films. Easily my favorite major blockbusters of the decade and my favorite Sci Fi since Blade Runner 2049. Would take them over the OG Star Wars trilogy if the third one maintains the quality of the first two.

It's a joke that voters wouldn't watch it. And it's a joke that DV wasn't nominated.

That said, glad Anora won tonight considering I knew Nickle Boys had 0 chance. Wish Nickle Boys had gotten adapted screen play and Demi best actress. Otherwise everything went as I would have voted.

Haven't watched I'm Still Here or Complete Unknown though.

The Oscars are as imperfect as any other awards body, but man do I enjoy following them. The small, weird and important stuff getting recognition makes up for the inevitable bad stuff, and since the academy expanded like 6 or 7 years ago they've been getting it right more than not. The 2020s are on a fantastic best picture run.

With Conan hosting, the return of acting clips, and several categories up in the air, this should be a really fun one.

Except for Coda which is mid af and basically a Hallmark movie with a slightly higher budget.

I would have been happy with any of Power of the Dog, Dune I (but first films in a trilogy never get it) or Liquorice Pizza. People love Drive My Car but it was too long for me.

And actually, Nomadland was alright but had no real bite. That was a weird year though for obvious reasons. Think I was rooting for Minari.

But either way, we are on a great 3 year run now + Parasite in 2019.
