Honestly don't know what to do with the information that I, someone whose film intake is approximately 90% horror films and superhero movies, apparently puts more effort into this shit than some actual registered Oscar voters.

Ralph actually lost Best supporting in Schindler to Tommy Lee Jones, and has no oscar. Which makes it funnier.
 
The Oscars are as imperfect as any other awards body, but man do I enjoy following them. The small, weird and important stuff getting recognition makes up for the inevitable bad stuff, and since the academy expanded like 6 or 7 years ago they've been getting it right more than not. The 2020s are on a fantastic best picture run.

With Conan hosting, the return of acting clips, and several categories up in the air, this should be a really fun one.

I'm feeling about the same. Making art competitive is always going to be a foolish endeavor, but we've been seeing some real interesting (and mostly worthy) choices from the Academy since the expansion. The ceremony's always going to be a little weird, there are always going to be questionable winners, but we're surprisingly close to an Anora BP win, which would be so cool.

Agreed. I think it's a great year for surprises outside of the supporting categories. Best Actor/Actress could go multiple ways. Best Director is totally up in the air. Best Picture could be another shocker like the Moonlight year. Very excited for Conan to host. Are we to assume they made the switch to clips because of Emilia Perez or do we think it was always in the cards for this year?

They'd never admit it, but I do think it's Karla Sofia Gascon's fault. They were originally going to do the 5 previous winners buttering up the nominees like they did last year again, but switched. Which I'm fine with cus I wasn't a big fan of that.
