N&G Secret Santa - 21

ok, picked up a d12 shift tomorrow so i'm opening my secret santa gift today instead of tomorrow. let's see what's in the booooox

IMG_3069.JPG

quite the haul here from my man @CAPacelli.

nothing here i've heard before save for the jimmy cliff, which really was a sorely missing piece in my collection and i'm really glad to add this to my shelves finally, and the greatest pop song of all time, 'easy lover'.

jimmy cliff - the harder they come
jd mcpherson - socks
v/a - favorite friend records presents: save our wicked lady (this is a comp put out to help support a nyc live music club to remain open- a cause i can easily get behind)
philips bailey and collins - 'easy lover' 7"
some days are darker - 'wolves' 7"

odds & sods include a few download codes, a cassette decal, and an issue of the alt citizen 'zine.

really looking forward to sitting down with all of these and taking it in. i love secret santa in part for the opportunity to see/hear things i've not been exposed to and that are meaningful in some way to the santa. i know for me, personally, every year of this has been really good to me. i'm thankful our community is so kind and generous.

thank you so much, @CAPacelli! very appreciated!

Santa!! You did AMAZING!

Van Morrison - it’s too late to stop now part 1

Perfect. I love Van Morrison, but I’ve never listened to this album. I’m really excited to give it a spin.

Stevie Wonder - talking book

I’ve heard the singles, but not the deep cuts. I love songs in the key of life, but I haven’t listened to any other of his albums. This fills a major gap in my collection. My wife screamed when she saw this one, so I know she’s excited too.

Wild flag - self titled

I’ve never heard anything from this album, but I really enjoy Sleater-Kinney. I’m not sure how this never showed up on my radar, but I’m very excited to listen to this.

Thank you Santa!! You did great!

:)

Thanks for the wonderful Christmas gifts @RoxCity !

The Brief Encounter - The Brief Encounter
Terry Callier - What Color Is Love
Chapel Hill and Griff’s Toffee

Thank you for the thoughtful gifts from your home state. I am barely familiar with Callier and completely ignorant to The Brief Encounter. Looking forward to checking both out soon. The description in your letter make both sound like they’d be a good time.

Thanks again, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and yours!

Cheers!

I came home from a few days away to find yet another package that I didn't order, so I can only assume @dhodo has struck again?

Earlier in the year, I did a deep dive through Jackie McLean's albums, streaming the ones I don't have on vinyl and spinning the ones I do. A Fickle Sonance was an album that got repeat plays as it's truly fantastic. I can't wait to listen to this alongside Binker Moses!!! Huge thanks again, you've well and truly smashed it!

Santa landed! (I assume)

Got home early from my vacation and this was the perfect surprise. I love HH/Rap but my collection had a large MF DOOM-shaped hole. A great album and the perfect cheer-up despite being on emergency coverage for the hospital and having my Christmas cut short by COVID. (Please ignore my desk clutter).

I have no way of knowing who it is, but I thank you sincerely.

Like pulling teeth trying to find this album. Doom's best right here.

I wouldn't take their tape if they gave it free
Maybe it's me, baby it's V!

Merry belated christmas buddy ! been waiting for you to return, i think the record has been sitting there for three weeks now !
i hope you like it even half as much as i do ! those sold out quickly , turns out our very own (day) @Mather is a huge fan of the pressing fwiw.

its probably not the usual starting point to get into DOOM but its fantastic and probably ranks just behind Operation DOOMsday to me.
I couldnt add a personal note or somehting as im not in the US, sorry about that.

cheers

NICE.

Santa came by, wrapped and everything!

I don’t get a lot of IRL presents so they may have to wait until the 25th…

Opened my gifts!

Tom Waits - Nighthawks at the Diner

We have a few Tom Waits records, and I've listened extensively to others when I first got into him. But have never given this one a listen (there are just so many). Love the "fake" jazz club vibe he goes for on this. Will be a regular spin.

Come on up to the house

A collection of Tom Waits covers by female singers. A bit niche and you know if you will like it or not purely from the premise. However this is EXTREMELY my shit.

Json Isbell - Georgia Blue

I don't know how much you know about my past, but I lived in Atlanta for almost a decade and really miss it sometimes. It's where my wife and I met and is one of the few places we would ever consider moving to at this point in my life. I had heard of this record but hadn't listened to it yet, it's just wonderful. Made me very nostalgic.

Really perfect as it's stuff I love but may have not purchased myself. My Santa (who I think is still hidden) knocked it out of the park!

On other fronts, please contact me or @nolalady (whoever sent you your match) if you haven't gotten your gift yet. We can follow up and see if it's in the mail or if there were any other issues. We have no way of knowing if everyone was successful without you reporting.

Love what I've seen in this thread though! I was a little burned out and hesitant to spearhead this again, but y'all's generosity has again been heartwarming in a difficult time.
