N&G Secret Santa - 21

On other fronts, please contact me or @nolalady (whoever sent you your match) if you haven't gotten your gift yet. We can follow up and see if it's in the mail or if there were any other issues. We have no way of knowing if everyone was successful without you reporting.

Love what I've seen in this thread though! I was a little burned out and hesitant to spearhead this again, but y'all's generosity has again been heartwarming in a difficult time.

Thank you SO much to you and @nolalady for putting this all together! 💜

Opened my gifts!

Tom Waits - Nighthawks at the Diner

We have a few Tom Waits records, and I've listened extensively to others when I first got into him. But have never given this one a listen (there are just so many). Love the "fake" jazz club vibe he goes for on this. Will be a regular spin.

Come on up to the house

A collection of Tom Waits covers by female singers. A bit niche and you know if you will like it or not purely from the premise. However this is EXTREMELY my shit.

Json Isbell - Georgia Blue

I don't know how much you know about my past, but I lived in Atlanta for almost a decade and really miss it sometimes. It's where my wife and I met and is one of the few places we would ever consider moving to at this point in my life. I had heard of this record but hadn't listened to it yet, it's just wonderful. Made me very nostalgic.

Really perfect as it's stuff I love but may have not purchased myself. My Santa (who I think is still hidden) knocked it out of the park!

Absolute fire!

I came home from a few days away to find yet another package that I didn't order, so I can only assume @dhodo has struck again?

Earlier in the year, I did a deep dive through Jackie McLean's albums, streaming the ones I don't have on vinyl and spinning the ones I do. A Fickle Sonance was an album that got repeat plays as it's truly fantastic. I can't wait to listen to this alongside Binker Moses!!! Huge thanks again, you've well and truly smashed it!

Thought it was a good fit since I saw you recently say you needed some more Tommy Turrentine. Sorry it was a bit late, ran into two shops with stock errors before I found one that actually had it. Cheers and happy holidays again!

Santa came by, wrapped and everything!

I don’t get a lot of IRL presents so they may have to wait until the 25th…

Glad you enjoyed them! Nighthawks is one of my favorite Waits albums as well for the same reason, gets very regular plays in my home. As soon as I noticed you liked Waits and also female singer/songwriter types like Phoebe Bridgers (who’s on the album) I knew this would be one I’d be hitting my local up for, for you. I knew absolutely nothing of your past and story but that is a pretty awesome coincidence, my local shop was playing it while I was shopping on RSD and it resonated well with me and I figured you’d dig it too so I grabbed us both a copy 👊

Well played!

Nighthawks at the Diner is definitely a very special and important piece of the Tom Waits catalogue - I think the studio jazz club vibe yielded incredible results, I'd love to see more albums recorded in that style.

Such a fantastic choice! I started writing about Tommy Turrentine in my post but thought I was nerding out too much :ROFLMAO:

Seriously man, I’m over the moon with them, thanks so much!

Santa @bfly, was this you? I was not expecting another package but this showed up today 🤯 and I hadn't ordered it yet 🤔

Santa landed! (I assume)

Got home early from my vacation and this was the perfect surprise. I love HH/Rap but my collection had a large MF DOOM-shaped hole. A great album and the perfect cheer-up despite being on emergency coverage for the hospital and having my Christmas cut short by COVID. (Please ignore my desk clutter).

I have no way of knowing who it is, but I thank you sincerely.
I spy a Yeti and some medical supplies, @cbl

Got home from my east coast travels late last night and found a parcel from Santa awaiting me.

I gotta say, after opening this wonderful package I felt like I had to go pull all my curtains closed and make sure no one was spying on me because these two picks could not have been more timely and perfect. This actually felt like when I was a kid and I was bewildered by how Santa knew exactly what I wanted.

Adrianne Lenker - A-Sides + B-Sides

• I have been streaming this one at least once a week for the past 4 months or so. I saw Adrianne Lenker perform right before leaving for the Holidays and I was bummed that her merch stand didn’t have this album available. Thank you so much for helping me out!

Albert King - Born Under A Bad Sign

• My first Albert King and one that I’ve had my eye on for years! The strange part here is I saw someone else in this thread receive the same record from their Secret Santa and I thought to myself “Wow, I actually really hope my Santa surprises me with that.”… well he did :D

The book marks and drawings were a heart warming touch! I’m still the type to crinkle page corners to hold my spot as I read so it’s time to change that 🍻. Happy Holidays and thank you Erick *for some reason it’s not letting me tag you, call the bug squad* 79A33342-A334-4940-A5A3-497D89918C44.jpeg

So glad it made it safely from my edge of the country to yours! Happy holidays!!

@Poly-Rythmo I believe that this was you!

Thank you so much! Confession this arrived just before I left for home for Christmas and I’ve only just got around to taking photos and posting!

I don’t know the album artist or any on the compilation so I’m looking forward to exploring!

Seriouly though thanks so much. I didn’t expect anything after missing out and to get two separate packages from two different people is just unbelievable really!

@Thackeraye was the real mastermind! I'm just glad it made it. I sent it in November along with two PIFs to Germany and nearly 4 weeks later none of them had arrived. Stressing over. Think both @Thackeraye and I thought this would be right in your wheelhouse - two great albums from the fantastic Scottish indie label, Last Night from Glasgow. Enjoy!

Couldn’t see you without a Secret Santa, Joe! Claimed these PIF’s off @Poly-Rythmo and there you go. Both are great albums from a label doing good things.

Hope you had a great Christmas!
