Needles & Grooves AoTM /// Vol. 2 - August 2019 /// Khemmis - Hunted

Metal is like any other genres or styles of music; It casts such a wide net it can be a bit presumptuous to assume you don't like it based of one band, or album, or song. For example, I am not super big on death metal but love Doom and Thrash. All of these styles of metal are quite different (in general though; like lots of things, there are hybrids) but still all considered metal. That goes with all genre of music really and something that I wish I realized earlier in life.
this is basically completely true... i mean i hate when people say "i hate modern hip hop" or "electronic music sucks because of skrillex or the chainsmokers".. if you actually look even a slight bit deeper into the genre im certain you can find someone in there that fits your need.. dont like bombastic EDM, try something like IDM or trance music. hate trap music, look at the more alternative scene

hell for me i dont really like jazz but i do know i like some jazz fusion (and will one day try to listen to mingus). the only genre i haven't had that with was country music (mostly because im not into the twang), but even then i admit i do like johnny cash and at least one dolly parton song

There’s some weird country out there if ya look in the right places. Check this out.

Check out Witch. Their self titled is great and should be right up your alley. View attachment 11329
Great recommendation. Also, the drummer is J Mascis, if that does anything for you.

I wish more metal had non-stereotypical metal vocals, like this one seems to, to me. If anyone has any recommendations that fit that bill, let me know.
Hell yeah, love me some J Mascis! Listening now.

Love to see all this metal talk and appreciation here. Make sure everyone makes there way over to the Metal thread. It’s not always the most visited spot on the forum but there’s tons of great recommendations for all types of metal fans! 🤘🏻

Edit to add: reminded me with the Power Trip talk, check this one...

so what of this album appealed to you specifically
The vocals not being "tear your vocal chords screaming" for one. I guess I like more musical metal. The stuff that turns me off is the kind that just seems to be chaotic noise and screaming to piss off teenager's parents. Obviously, a vast oversimplification.
I like when it makes me want to move, maybe head bang a bit, but not get into a boxing match in a mosh pit trying to inflict a bunch of pain. Does that make sense?
It has somewhat of a laidback groove going on. I could totally get into it in a live setting, but I could also have it on while I work.

I mean, who doesn't like a good double kick and a driving bass line and loud crunching guitars? I just assumed my heavy rock days were over since I'm an old fart with a business and kids. HA

maybe try something more on the progressive metal side.. maybe some dream theater or even some djent acts like periphery or TesseracT (especially TesseracT.. they dont use a lot of harsh vocals from what i know)

I think I've heard some Dream Theater before. Will check them out.

I just remembered, I've really enjoy Sleep's The Sciences also
you can probably try a lot of stoner metal than

maybe something like sleeps other work like dopesmoker (though i dont get the hype because of the length i do appreciate that people do love it), or the work of high on fire which matt pike did after sleep
