That eliminates Sepultura and Opeth. I think Deafheaven are frontrunners because Sunbather can be had for cheap. Albums from most other critically-acclaimed metal(ish) bands (e.g. Pallbearer) seem to run in their $30s.

I don't think it's this, but I'll throw it in as a "guess" in case others haven't heard it: Dawnbringer - Into the Lair of the Sun God is a very fun listen.

Clarification on the "critically acclaimed" hint. I read a lot of metal and hard rock publications. I don't just read indie blogs and Pitchfork. Just because a metal(ish) band is popular on P4K and the other mainstream publications, doesn't mean that's the only possibility.

I'm ALSO not referring to "Rob's Metal Blog" on geocities. Somewhere in between could be a possibility.
