Needles & Grooves AoTM /// Vol. 4 - October 2019 /// Camarón de la isla - La leyenda del tiempo

YES! I love this thread. I would have never ever ever have listened to this album or this artist without this thread. And holy crap @agutierrezb - a booklet? I'm impressed.

Do not even worry at all about the availability. People can now crate dig for used copies at their record store. And set reminders to check stock on other sites also. And everyone remember - the Nicole Atkins was not hugely expensive. So the money you saved last month can go towards what may be a bit extra this month.

What a great month! Nearly every artist mentioned was new to me.

@ThePakoBuelna - I'm super excited to see what you have in store for us!!!

Hey @agutierrezb , in your writeups you suggested there were many different styles of flamenco songs (palos). Does a singer typically specialize in one or two palos or master them all? Did Camarón focus on any particular style or change throughout his career? Thanks!
Artists usually perform in a wide variety of styles, although they may be better at a couple of them. It also has to do with the birthplace of the the artist, since some of the palos have strong geographic roots. Camarón, for instance, is very good at Alegrías and Cantiñas, which are palos from the Cadiz area.

1. Camarón and Tomatito played at Montreux in 1991
2. We haden't had a flamenco record before
3. The team is PSV, founded py Philips and plays at Philips Stadion. The album waas released on the Philips label.
4. The album was released in 1979, our oldest ROTM yet
5. I guess flamenco is World Music
6. Poet House in New York: One of Federico García Lorca's most famous books is "Poet in New York". More than half of the lyrics in this album are adaptations of his poems.
7. Camarón died in 1992
8. Federico García Lorca on Discogs
9. Camarón was born on San Fernando, Cádiz. References of the sea are all over his ouvre, and this album in particular is proof of it.
10. 2:30 on this video
11. Tomatito, who played guitar on this album, appeared on "The Devil's Advocate" and contributed to the Soundtrack too.

Bravo! Wonderful pick and excellent hints. Congratulations!

All right then. I ordered a copy (I think) from the disc order place. And for shits and giggles I ordered the cd from Amazon UK, we’ll see what happens...
Thanks Lee! I hope the Disc Order site comes through and you, along with the rest of the members of the club, get the chance to grab the album on wax. In any case, thanks for investing your time and money on my pick. I look forward to reading your impressions.

Great pick, great write up and OMG, a booklet. This community amazes me every day.

I'm still waiting on my amazon.es order but I'm glad I ordered it blindly, I already love what I streamed, and would have had no regrats if this did not end being the AotM. :) I'll look into the further listening section and try no to pull a Skalap and buy everything at once.
