New Music Friday!

RBF

Post-punk, indie rock Melbourne, Australia 5-piece,  Floodlights, dropped their 11-track, 45-minute 3rd LP,  Underneath, and it's quite excellent. Too bad I've not discovered this band before now because they check a lot of boxes for me. I feel like a lot of you on here would enjoy this record.

Normally it would be high praise to say "this is the best hip-hop/rap album I've heard all year". And, don't get me wrong, I'm still offering this album praise. But it's only March and I've listened to very few hip-hop/rap albums up until this point. Anyway, Did You Enjoy Your Time Here...? by  PremRock is pretty damn good. Prem is one half of another hip-hop/rap duo ShrapKnel (alongside Curly Castro). This new album is 16 tracks, 45 minutes, and features loads of different producers (Controller 7, Sebb Bash, Child Actor, ELUCID, YOUNGMORPHEUS, Jeff Markey, Small Professor, Blockhead, and Fines Double) on every track, and some guest features (billy woods, Pink Siifu, Cavalier, Curly Castro, AJ Suede, Mary Esther Carter, Nappy Nina, and Illogic) on some of the tracks. 'Aim's True' is an absolute banger. If you're looking for something to scratch that rap/hip-hop itch, this is the best album I've found to do that so far in 2025.

Maaaannnnn.. This is the first .clipping LP where I'm not immediately hitting replay after my initial listen.. Granted, they had some HUGE shoes to fill after 2020's VOBBB (one of my top albums of the 20s right now), but I'm genuinely left a bit underwheled with this one. Idk, maybe it's gonna take a few more listens to warm up to me. The album did have some good moments, and the Aesop Rock feature was nice. But for now, I'd give it a 6/10. Time will tell.

Has this grown on you at all? I finally got the chance to sit down with it and while there are a lot of tracks I really loved overall the project is just ok. Wondering if it will grow on me too

Michelle Zauner aka Japanese Breakfast's "For Melancholy Brunettes (& sad women)" is a richly layered, emotionally resonant album. Featuring orchestral arrangements, atmospheric guitars, and her wistful vocals, it's a mature and deeply immersive work that reveals its beauty over time, marking a significant artistic evolution. Favourite track : Honey 🍯 Water 💦

They are fantastic. I also recommend tge album before. Saw them atca festival in november and they opened one of the smaller stages and te audience was still singing the chorus of their last song loudly about a minute after they left tge stage.

Wife has been very sick. Have not had time for fun stuff like music. This is definitely the worst I’ve done with new music since I started scrobbling everything:

Rush has been the soundtrack to running around town taking care of stuff and The Cars have been bath time listens.
