NHL Thread Because There Isn't An NHL Thread

The Red Wings have something going. They aren't ready to compete for a cup just yet, but I really like what I see 14 games in. It's still a small sample size, but I really hope it's real. This town is SO ready for these guys to be good again.

I'll check back at the 30 game mark. LGRW!

Jerry sucks in the shootouts.
I’m also over the shootout.
BRING BACK THE TIE
I hate the shootout. Always have. Always will. The fact the Pens suck in the shootout is just salt.

I’m fine with ties, which is probably the better alternative to adding OT periods, which as a fan I’d really prefer, but isn’t really fair to players in terms of injury prevention, etc.

Once the league took away the players ability to create in the shootouts that’s when it should have ended.
I feel like you can tell that a lot of players are over it too.
And even though the 3v3 overtimes are exciting, I’d be ok with that going away too.
I’m surprised the league didn’t flirt with that concept for the playoffs.
The NHL could make it super easy on themselves and the players and change their model to another very popular league; 3 points for wins. 1 point for ties. ZERO points for the L.

I do enjoy the 3v3, but at the end of the day like you said, it just over complicates something in a long season that might be better served by the 3-1-0 model.

That said, bring back the 3v3 round robin mini tournament during all star weekend because that has as much fun potential as the skills comp.

Colorado Avalanche superstar Nathan MacKinnon will miss "give or take three weeks" due to a lower-body injury, head coach Jared Bednar said Wednesday.

MacKinnon was hurt in Saturday's game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. It remains unclear how exactly he suffered the ailment.

The 26-year-old has recorded a goal and nine assists in eight contests this season. He missed the opening two games of the campaign due to COVID-19.

J.T. Compher is projected to take MacKinnon's place on the top line between Gabriel Landeskog and Mikko Rantanen. Here was the rest of the team's lineup at Wednesday's practice:

MacKinnon's absence comes just when the Avs were on the verge of becoming fully healthy.

Devon Toews made his season debut Saturday after undergoing shoulder surgery in the summer. His defense partner, Cale Makar, missed the last two games due to an upper-body injury and is nearing a return, as is forward Valeri Nichushkin, who hasn't played since the season opener.

The Avalanche have had bad luck with injuries and COVID-19 absences this season. In addition to the aforementioned issues, Landeskog, Rantanen, and Samuel Girard have all missed multiple games. Backup goalie Pavel Francouz also has yet to appear in a game due to an ankle injury.

The reigning Presidents' Trophy winners are off to an uneven 4-5-1 start.
