NHL Thread Because There Isn't An NHL Thread

Canucks played like they wanted it tonight! Good start for them, especially after giving up a lead twice. They’re playing with a lot of poise against the Blues’ physical style, and they’re gonna have to keep doing it with a cool head.

Does anyone pay attention to Patrick Sharp and Keith Jones’ eyes when Kathryn Tappen is hosting? They always look directly at her and then you see them drop really quickly to chest level and then back up again to eye level. Are there teleprompters off screen that they’re are reading their analysis from and it just looks like they’re looking at her?
At least they didn't make inappropriate comments or insinuate a manage à trois with her and their wives 🤷‍♂️

When there’s other games ongoing I know there’s a monitor with the game feed just past her right shoulder and behind her off-camera. Sharp gets caught watching that a lot while he’s talking when he’s in the opposite seat of her.

Alrighty. Let's see if this Lightning game finishes before 9PM EST tonight!!! A 2-0 lead would be amazing (despite google saying we are down 1-0) lol 😊 Going to be interesting to see the pace early on after Tuesday's marathon

Man I was out of it. Just tuned in yesterday because Bs series started (originally from RI), and was shocked to learn that the round robin games actually meant something, and the Bs are suddenly a 4 seed. I was pissed for a few minutes until I remembered that it's the NHL Playoffs and seeding doesn't matter anyway. Bs don't really play well with high expectations so I'm cool with this.

There's reseeding after this round, though, so it kinda does mean something this year.

Given the fact that in the normal format the 8th seeded team has won the Cup, I tend to think that the only thing that matters in the NHL is making the playoffs. It's why I love the NHL. I don't pay attention to the NBA, but I'd be curious to know the lowest seeded team to win a championship in the last, say, 20 years.

Yeah, the year the Kings won as the 8th seed they had really strong underlying numbers all year that they kind of underperformed. That's a bit different than the chance to play, for example, Montreal this year, who finished like 24th and only got in because of the vastly expanded field. Of course anything can happen in a seven-game series but all things being equal it's better to play a weaker team in those series.

For sure. Kings were certainly the exception, but I just love the fact that you really feel like any team has a chance in an NHL playoff series. Only compounded by the fact that President Trophy winners, like Tampa last year, have been swept in the first round. Crazy shit happens in NHL playoffs I guess is my point, and I don't think that's the case in other sports. My bigger point is, NHL playoffs are the best thing and I'm happy hockey is back! My wife, not so much.

Definitely, I think hockey is probably the most "random" of the major NA sports for sure. I love basketball but the good teams are a bit too consistently dominant, lol. The "anything can happen" factor in hockey is awesome.
