There was so much hope when he came on. Like he would be the saviour to take us to the promised land. He was supposed to be the changing of the guard and some much needed fresh blood.

That lasted maybe half a season. I feel bad in a way for him. I think the hype and the wunderkind thing just set him up to fail.

But also, I mean...getting your first GM role with the Leafs is just not a good start. The team will chew up and spit out even the most experienced GMs.
 
Dubas was also pretty much when I lost hope in everything Leafs though, so I did reclaim a lot of my sanity after that. Year after year of just dashed hopes weighs on you.

This may even be their year, but I'm only going to start caring Game 1 of the SCF. I'll check the scores and standings every now and then, but I'm not letting this team get me emotionally invested anymore.

EDIT: To put in perspective every coach and GM I can remember after JFJ was supposed to be the chosen one. Every one as it turns out...wasn't.
 
To be fair, Hextall ruined our franchise long before Dubas was hired! The man didn't have much of a chance to make the Pens a winning team with what he was given.
