No Buy/Spin Yr Collection Challenge - July 2022

#42

Akira Ito - Marine Flowers (Science Fantasy)

First spin (acquired in April). This album was a blind grab (really shouldn't have been at $30), but the owner of Final Form here in Portland convinced me to try it. A quality entry in the Japanese ambient lineage, but one section in 祈り (lit. "Prayer") takes me out of the meditative experience jarringly.

#7 - Grateful Dead - Blues for Allah

I took my daughter to the NJ DMV this morning for her driving test. It's her 17th birthday...New Jersey tradition. She passed within 10 minutes (that's my girl!), but we then spent four hours waiting for them to process her license paperwork, much of it outside in 90 degree heat. On her birthday. So today is all about music designed to counteract white hot rage.

Television - Marquee Moon

First spin (acquired in October last year). Post-punk, space rock, proto alt-rock, and it makes for a classic. Listening closer, I can hear how The Strokes had to be heavily influenced by the guitarwork here, as well as Casablancas's vocal style drawing inspiration from Tom Veraline.

Kenny Loggins – Nightwatch

First spin. I've had this for a year and a half or more. I honestly can't remember which of the two small collections I inherited this came from - either my step-grandparents or their former neighbours. I'm bot exactly sure why this wound up in the keep pile rather than the trade pile, but I'm guessing I wanted to have it in case I we ever needed something extra smoooth for a party or company. Probably going to go into my next trade batch.
