One of my top50 all-time, #3 to be specific.
This is the one that changed my musical tastes forever and for the better. Despite stumbling upon this in 2017, four years after it was released, I had never heard anything resembling it prior...the album's atmosphere unfolded like that of an introverted sanctuary, totally apart from the one that I reside in. It encompasses the vast majority of genres that I find comfort in now. Not one second of this record feels out of place. Loud City Song has its challenging moments ("Maxims II" and "Horns Surrounding Me"), and yet so very accessible with passages of serenity ("Hello Stranger" and "City Appearing" come to mind). I find her voice to be among the most whimsical, delightful, and yet arresting I've ever heard.
Her stop in Portland was the first concert I saw in '19 and also was the first time I ever got records signed, the best case of musical serendipity that I can think of. Speaking of that, I MISS YOUUUUUU 🥺
