November 2020 Challenge Thread: The End Is Near

Day 15: Clean Out Your Fridge Day - Play something that'd get you motivated for the task. Also, major bonus points if you actually do clean out your fridge (pics or it didn't happen).

Journey - Greatest Hits

One of the most distinct memories I have growing up was being at my cousin's house and my aunt blasting this album whenever she cleaned. It happened all the time, and funny enough, I hated it back then but love it now. As a reasult, this is the first thing that comes to mind when I think music and cleaning.

Grace Jones - Slave to the Rhythm

It's not like I've done anything today, on this particularly nasty, rainy Sunday, when we've been asked not to leave the house from 13.00 onwards due to covid, but if I was going to do anything, this is what I would spin...

Bonobo - Migration (Ninja Tune, 2017 First Pressing)

Funnily enough we had leftover's for lunch to help clean out the fridge abit. Decided to play some high energy music from Bonobo for today's challenge. I saw Bonobo live a few years ago as part of his Migration tour, at the legendary Alexandra Palace and it was fantastic.

Day 14: Every Other Day Is A-hole Day?

Phil Spector - A Christmas Gift For You from Philles Records

I’m sure all of the singers who worked on this album were/are nice people. Phil Spector though... I’m sure y’all know his story. His greeting on the “Silent Night” outro even sounds cold & forced.

Day 13: World Kindness Day
Play an album from an artist known for their kindness/generosity. Bonus points if they've been kind to you personally.

Ruen Brothers - All My Shades of Blue

These guys are pretty nice. They signed the record, while on stage they passed out some whiskey to everyone (including me), and they gave an AMA for the N&G ROTM.

Day 15: Clean Out Your Fridge Day

Usually when I clean, I just put my earbuds in and listen to something random on Spotify. So let’s go to the Discogs randomizer and...

...holy shit, on the first try. Great choice, Discogs!

Day 11: Veteran's Day
If you know a veteran, play an album in their honor. Or, play an album from an artist who served.

My Dad was also a Vietnam war veteran. This was one of his old records.

Reelin' in the Years was somehow imprinted on my soul back in the 70's. I think I was only beginning to understand there was a big world beyond my back yard, and this song seemed to offer the promise of something fantastic, mysterious, and possibly heart-breaking. Good choice!!

Day 15: Clean Out Your Fridge Day

If it's just a usual room cleaning I go with Manson's greatest hits CD - Lest We Forget. But I also play things off Spotify when not near my system. I find myself streaming the Complete Recordings of the trilogy.

Since I didn't think I needed the Complete Recordings on vinyl - I'll spin this perfectly adequate 6 LP box set.

Oh...and I did clean out the fridge while my wife was out shopping - this is taken after she got back with food.

Day 16: They're Huge Where I'm From - Play an act that was/is huge in your hometown, or specifically with your group of friends, or just with you - but that really hasn't been as big in the greater musical world.

Swampcandy - Midnight Creep

I wouldn't say they're huge here, but the first time I, and my wife's family, heard these two guys at a local event we were blown away. Such a fun show and such a big sound coming from only two people. We've gone out of our way many times to catch them live, so damn good! Their bandcamp description sums it up nicely haha: Swampcandy is pig drinkin’, whiskey eatin’, foot clapping’, hand stompin’, American music. Fermented in primitive blues, pre war folk sounds, field hollers, gypsy jazz, and ragtime. Steeped in influences from Robert Johnson to Radiohead.
