November 2021 Vinyl Spin Challenge Thread: High wind through the trees, falling November leaves, a weak sun hanging low, summer seems so long ago...

8. World Adoption Day

Sarah McLachlan - Rarities, B-Sides & Other Stuff
View attachment 116857

@Kris and I clearly thinking similar things today, but we don't have Fumbling Towards Ecstasy on the shelves around here (yet!) so I'm saved by nature of having had a different release queued up. Between the two I can't say for sure which CD got the most play back in my high school days as I listened to both a LOT. Either way, I'll be forever grateful to this one for introducing me to XTC's "Dear God."
Oh yeah, I was transported back to college listening to Sarah this morning.

Oh yeah, I was transported back to college listening to Sarah this morning.

This was one of the first shows I went to see with my wife back in 1996. It was more her thing than mine, but I was totally into Sting as the main act. At least this was the first actual paid-for show with tickets we saw together. I first started dating her at a free outdoor festival - the acts there were Ashley MacIsaac and The Presidents Of The United States Of America. I have vague recollections of Sinead O'Connor as well.

Day 8
World Adoption Day
Play an album by someone who was adopted or who adopted children themselves.

Born in Florida, Debbie Harry was adopted as an infant to a family in New Jersey.

Blondie – The Best Of Blondie
Chrysalis – CHR 1337, 1981

Pressed at Columbia, Terre Haute

World Adoption Day

La Santa Evita - Ray of Light

Somehow when Evita came out my mom went from being very judgemental of Madonna to liking her music. This was a regular in car rides after it came out, but I wasn't a fan then. Now my mom is back to thinking Madonna is "gross" (her words) and I like her. Anywhooo, Madonna adopts kids.

Day 7 | Time

Haven't listened to this album in full in probably 20 years. I remember Ja Rule being called a DMX knock-off at the time. Best song on the album by far is "Race Against Time" - same kind of spiritual/reflective type song that DMX would do. This album has actually aged much better than I was expecting, thanks mostly to some really good production.

Day 6 - Song Title "November Rain"
Play an album that fits perfectly into a cold gray rainy day.

Have really been enjoying the tones of this one, nice release that came out this year. Americana-y at moments, singer songwriter fare. Oh, and a song titled All This Rain. Kinda how this Portland weather has been lately.

Day 9
National Accounting Day
Play an album with themes of money.

So, I'll take the low bait given there is literally a song called Money on side B, but the whole movie this is the OST for revolves around fame, money, and the influences behind that. When it originally came out it got some real criticism for a true oversaturation of sponsorship and commercialization...which in retrospect was kind of the point. Full of bops and great original tunes, it has a lot to say about the intersection of art and money in this sphere.
