Thought experiment for you for the new year, do the savings you experience offset the time and effort expended? Or, is that fun for you?
I only have gone in if I’m doing errands. There’s one near Trader Joe’s and one near target for me so I just popped in for 5 min today after grocery shopping. $50 for 6Lps and a box set that will be Christmas presents for my fam. Easily worth itThought experiment for you for the new year, do the savings you experience offset the time and effort expended? Or, is that fun for you?
I love a deal, but you guys exhaust me sometimes (read all the time).
Like there is no way I am making multiple trips to Barnes and Noble. There is even less of a chance of me calling them and speaking to them.
Fair enough, but I wasn’t just referring to B&N.I only have gone in if I’m doing errands. There’s one near Trader Joe’s and one near target for me so I just popped in for 5 min today after grocery shopping. $50 for 6Lps and a box set that will be Christmas presents for my fam. Easily worth it
Oh yea I get it. TJs is less than a 10 min drive from my son’s daycare so when work isn’t busy I usually go once a week after I drop him off. By far the cheapest grocery store near us and I’m work from home full time so not difficult to do.There is not a B&N near any of my routine errands. The closest Trader Joe’s is a half hour away. My wife likes to go there like once a quarter. If I’m driving that far to grocery shop, I’m going to the Wegmans near it. Barnes and noble is on the way to those but a grocery trip with a three year old with an hour total commute is not exactly swing by Barnes and noble to see what deals I can grab feasible not to mention the fact that she will Meltdown if I don’t buy her a book because why else would we be there?
I’m thankful to @Twentytwo and your service. Sometimes I would miss out on things I get emails about if it weren’t for you two.Oh yea I get it. And I’m also just on every email list ever at this point so fairly easy to find the deals and post em! I find it fun
Hendrix live in Maui 3LP plus bluray is $5 at Barnes and noble as well.

Sorry I pissed you off.Does the time you spend worrying about what we do and exhausting yourself over it seem worth it?
There is no way I'm wasting my energy concerning myself about how the rest of you choose to buy records. There is even less of a chance I'm posting to complain about it.
The short answer to your question is yes. The long answer is more nuanced, addressing social and class dynamics, as well as hater theory. If seeing @MikeH buy some Johnn Prine albums drains you, then that full response could make you dangerously sleepy.
Also, the only reason you know about any of this is because people are sharing the information on here. I'm sure that Mike could confirm that compiling a list for others takes a lot more effort than going to Barnes & Noble, but it helps others. That's worth it.
Shouldn't you be off strapping antlers to your dog and ransacking Whoville?

Reminder: this is the deals thread. To anyone that hates deals, don't worry; records are still available at full price.
I mean, I’m not hating on anyone. I asked a buddy about his habits.
My theory is the reason we love finding deals in this hobby has to do with the instinctual hunter/gatherer mindset that still resides in the deep recesses of our modern brains. The journey is just as important as the results. If we weren’t looking for cheap vinyl deals we would be expending that energy in other places, speed boat racing, oenophilia, hunting Big Foot, selling handmade jewelry at craft fairs. Etc…Does the time you spend worrying about what we do and exhausting yourself over it seem worth it?
