I've always been T.Rex-curious but between the Rock Hall induction last week and then watching Billy Elliott with my kids the other night, I'm ready to take the plunge and start investing in some wax. Which T.Rex album, and which pressing, is the one to start with (keep in mind I don't really have the system or budget to splurge on mofi's or other audiophile type pressings). Thanks.

I vote for Electric Warrior to start with. Not sure how it is in other places but around my way in local shops (SE PA) I don't really see OG copies around much. However when I do they're usually around $10-20 depending on condition, I'd recommend starting with one of these if you can find one for a decent price. This was the first pressing I ever acquired, pretty good other than occasional surface noise (T. Rex - Electric Warrior)

@imajindat is right-- I'd go with Electric Warrior or The Slider. Both are really amazing albums from start to finish. The MoFi of Electric Warrior is incredible but OOS in most places I believe for now. The Rocktober cut of EW was also supposed to be amazing and was really cheap back when it came out, now it's as much as the MoFi was. I don't see clean early pressings around too much but they also sound great. I don't have experience with the Back to Black version that came out somewhat recently.

I need to do a deeper dive on Bolan/T.Rex but I really love most of what I've heard. I believe that there's an AAA somewhat recent reissue of one of T Rex's other albums too but haven't picked that one up yet!

My favourite T.Rex song is "Children of the Revolution" which was never released on a studio album, but is on the usual greatest hit packages.

Late 70s UK Cube presses are also great if you can find one.

@Jeff Lerner

Not sure how much it has gone up in the last couple years but UK original presses of The Slider, which I think is right up there weren't too bad if you hunted for a deal.

Tanx is also worth having imo if you like those two and UK originals should be cheap.

If weird hippie folk interests you, you may want to check out his earlier albums where they were billed as Tyrannosaurus Rex like Unicorn or Beard of Stars. Less accessible for sure though.

Have to defer to others if any reissues are good outside of the aforementioned EW presses.
