Look up the Sony UBP-X800M2. It plays pretty much every format even SACD. It might be more outside of the US though. I got it on a Black Friday deal for $199.

That looks interesting. I would have to get a toslink - rca converter to connect to my old Marantz

I have it on my home theater system. I wanted the 5.1 for the DVD-A and 5.1 mixes. I haven’t tried it on my music system. I’ll have a dac this weekend so I might try it.

Lack of digital input into my amp is smashing me on the 4K players - have to pay a good amount to get RCA outputs. Found a cheap Sony DVD player ($50!) that will do the job for me!

No, I don’t think so. as long as you can get the outputs from the player to an input of your receiver. I don’t have a digital input on my
Stereo receiver. A toslink to rca cable is a DAC. Shouldn’t be an issue using it “headless”. I can try it next week if you want.

Got a brand new cheapo CD/DVD player to get up and running. It’s pretty lightweight, but does the job. Time to get my CDs out the garage and give them a spin!

Some cd grabs for September. Everything but the Dead came from Discogs, which when I average it out with shipping and tax (2 of the 3 sellers did not charge tax) they came to about $7 each.
