Started listening to the Island Tour shows. Holy shit
IMO the best four day run, and most important four day run.

A little background, if you're interested: they announced those shows just 37 days in advance, coming off a really, really strong Fall Tour -> NYE in '97. They felt so good after the run that they almost immediately went into the studio to record Story of a Ghost. For me, Fall '97 through Big Cypress (NYE '99) is their most important period. Just an incredible evolvement in their sound.

That’s good to know, especially to know to explore more around these shows. I have skipped around a bit, but I want to stay in this period a while longer.

listen to 2/28/03.

and i just listened to 2/26/03 on a whim last night after it popped up in my youtube recommendations, and my god this is quite a show, too. i've listened to 2/28 for many years but never the shows around it, and after listening to this i might have to.

you enjoy myself opens, and if that version doesn't reel you in to keep listening, i do not know what will. the roggae, moma dance, maze, and stash are fantastic. ghost morphs into low rider. and even the loving cup gets a real nice extended outing in the encore. i do not know a few of the songs in the first set - looks like they are all solo project tunes that never got played again by the full band - but they do not bring the quality of this show down in any way.

highly recommend giving this one a go.
