Political Discussion

So… the MacDonald’s that Trump was at closed for the day? He couldn’t even work a real half hour?
Yes, it appears that it was all staged.

Though, I'd say it is probably a logistical nightmare having him there, especially from a security standpoint.

There has been two assassination attempts already. Probably shouldnt have the guy working the drive through. 😬

All this because Kamala had the gall to highlight that she worked a summer job, which triggers Trump since he’s never done hard work a day in his life. So clearly she must be lying which to him, makes more sense than someone actually working.

I hate how the polls are tightening the closer we get to the election.

A few weeks ago it was only the New York Times poll that showed Trump in the lead. Now half of the polls show Trump in the lead and all the polls show Harris has slipped by a few points.

Ironically, IIRC the last release of NYT/Sierra (which shouldn't be looked at in isolation but remains one of the best) had Harris in the lead at +3.

Polls are especially bullshit this election because
1) they don't account for the 1million+ newly registered voters this cycle, including the 150k+ that registered after Swift's endorsement.
2) they don't account for the swaths of bush/mccain era republicans that are likely voting for Harris and don't want to publicly say so.
3) they're heavily distorted by right wing pac polls that are heavily biased to republicans to make the numbers seem closer than they likely are.

The point is these polls literally exist to consume your time and engagement. The more you doom, the more you click on other articles. I won't be surprised if they're off 5-10 points this year.

…and then after the election, all the post-election discourse will revolve around think pieces about “what went wrong” followed by more think pieces to counter those about how “with the election so close, and given the 5.6 +\- margin of error they were actually (pushes up glasses) VERY accurate.”

I just did my early voting via by mail in ballot. Sucks I don't get a "I Voted" sticker.

I saw that one of the questions was to legalized 2, mushroom based psychedelics for certain approved people over the age of 21. Similar to say a medical marjawana card. Of course they will be taxed and access to them will be supervised, but I'm all for supporting that one. Psychedelics can be hugely beneficial when used right to someone's health and mental health.

A few of the questions, even when I had time to do more extensive research, I wish I knew more about the question and how it came about being a question.

Question 1 was whether or not the state auditor has the authority to audit the state legislature. A no vote would keep things as is, a yes vote would give the state auditor the authority to adit the state legislator. And that's pretty much all the information you get, in the summarization of the law. The full text of the law is not publicly available and the rational behind the proposed law is not explained.

Question 4 was about tipped workers minimum wage. A yes vote would stagger their minimum wage to increase it to the regular state minimum wage by 2029 (so over 5 years), at which point employers could then collect all tips into a pool and displace them evenly across every employee. I voted no for this. As I suspect it means that wait staff will make less. Restaurants are also very vocally against it saying they would have to raise prices or it would put them out of business.

And Question 5 was about unionizing of Uber / Lyft drivers. A yes vote would allow them to unionize. I voted yes for this, despite knowing that Uber and Lyft have flooded the airwaves with commercials saying to vote no on question 5 and there is a good chance if it passed they will pull out of MA.
