Political Discussion

Two things: 1 is only twenty voters affected.
2. There is a deadline tomorrow to request a replacement ballot. Which I would do if I used that box. If you see the tracking go through, throw it away. If not, then vote again.
We don't vote by mail so I didn't know you get confirmation that your vote has been received and recorded but that makes sense. Carry along I am stupid.

So black people and women are going to have to save this country yet again. White males are really f'ing dumb. You're a union worker and you'll pull the lever for the guy who will absolutely go with the anti-union corporation and has a history of stiffing workers and venues. There has to be misogyny at play here because union people voting for Trump is just straight up moronic.

I do wonder if it has a lot more to do with union workers generally not being college educated. And they will take their chances with Trump because the feel that under Harris the economy would be worse and they might not have a job at all. And of course, all of them talking to each other at work spreading the fear mongering about "illegals".

Looks like CNN also has an article about this this morning:

“Let’s be real, a huge number of our unionized members are going to vote for Trump,” Vicente told CNN at the pro-Democrat rally. “The national Dems have a real problem with messaging to regular working people. You can give all the policy speeches you want. Nobody’s listening.”

The labor leader’s warning is yet another alarm bell for Democrats about their clout with labor nationally, which has been slipping for decades, according to interviews with more than a dozen union workers and local Democrats. Trump’s strength in places like eastern Pennsylvania have made it a far more urgent problem for Harris, whose ability to win the White House could come down to a few thousand votes here in the state.

With that said, I read this like most of these people would have voted for Trump regardless of whether or not they are in a union. But I could be wrong.

Sure. They are union because it benefits them or they have to be to get work. It's similar to immigrants who want to pull up the ladder behind them. They got theirs and they're afraid someone will come along and take it. The cartoon I posted earlier works with so many instances of people being conditioned to fear someone is taking what's "theirs" all the while not noticing who the real enemy is. Did you lose your job under Biden? No, then why do you think Kamala's administration would cause you to lose your job? Economists are warning about the utter hell Trump's administration would unleash on the economy but you'll trust him because "he's a businessman". You were always going to be a Trump voter then.

To make you feel better, she's doing really well in PA with early voting. I think the whiny undecided is the latest fetish for corporate media because it artificially keeps the race closer than it might be. It's humorous that the same media criticizing her for people not wanting policy speeches was earlier saying she needed to give people more policy points. I think I'm ready for CNN to go away fully. Hopefully Kamala winning will usher in their demise as rating would fall off if they don't have Trump to report on.

I honestly think there are four kinds of people voting for Trump and unfortunately, it is probably a greater than half portion of the country.

1. The wealthy and powerful who are only driven by wealth and power. (Be it Musk at the top or Vance who merely desires these things)

2. Racist/misogynistic/otherwise hate driven biased people.

3. Libertarian/tea party want to burn it to the ground (not even necessarily to build it back up) lunatics

4. Truly uniformed/highly gullible people who just fall in line with whatever their bubble is/says.
I think your list of the four kinds of people here is pretty spot on, but I don't think its a greater than half portion of the country. I do think Trump most likely wins the election, but he'll still lose the popular vote by millions.

Yep only 66% of who were eligible to vote voted in 2020 and that was the highest in decades. 34% of the American public said fuck the whole system I don't care, that is even more disheartening.

There are also the people who work retail or in the food service industry that simply can not make it out to vote.

I remember when I was working in retail, it was pretty much like yeah, you can't take time away from your shift to go out and vote. You can either vote before work, after work or during your lunch break if you live close enough and could pull it off in 30 minutes or less. If you took more than 30 minutes that's a write up. Asking if you could skip out to vote and return to work would just get you laughed at by management.

There are a people who this does not work for. Whether they got stuck with a double shift, or their obligations with getting their kids too and from school or child care. They just couldn't make it to the polls while they were open.

This is the issue with giant corporations/billionaires owning media companies…

Feels like we have slowly travelled back the Willam Randolph Hurst era of yellow journalism and bottom lines determining headlines.
Yeah, instead of informing the public why it is a bad idea to elect the bastard… censor yourself to appease him should he come to power. Fucking self fulfilling prophecy bullshit.
