Political Discussion

I am worried about the next election....Not because of who could become president....I am more worried at how extreme some people are getting whether it be left or right. False information, moving goal posts to try and formulate propaganda type statements. We are being weaponized against one another all while there are multiple wars and genocide going on around the world. Algorithms have been getting smarter as we head towards a boiling point, and everyone is in some sort of echo chamber online, at home, at church, etc. Scary to me that we as a country are more focused on fighting over who we think would do a better job, all while Gaza has all but crumbled. Another 55 dead in a bombing this morning, but its more important to focus on jokes Tony Hinchcliffe made at a Trump rally? Or be concerned that Elon wants Trump to win so Starlink can become a hundred billion dollar company? We are concerned that Beyonce and J Lo were at a Diddy party (or dated him) and now support Kamala!??! We are so distracted.

The only way to take down something as big as America is from within. Simplest option for the powers that be is to let the people take out each other first. Sad times ahead

For the most part, I don't believe we have an extreme or radical left. Most people who are left are more center than anything. And the younger generations who we like to call radical for what they would like to see in policy changes pretty much aligns with Europe.

It's the right that keeps getting more extreme.

I'm getting sick of pretty much ever republican deflecting answering questions by saying "they are not familiar with so and so topic so they can't comment on it".

Like when the media asked Vance about his thoughts about the joke at Trump's Madison Square Garden rally. His response was "I didn't hear the joke so I can't comment on that". The interview just told you what the joke was / what was said!?. And you deflect because you didn't hear it first hand?

It's not just vance. Pretty much any GOP person asked about things Trump said say the same thing.

I personally have both in my family. Much like your father who has delusions of MAGA dancing in his head, I have a few family members in Alabama and Northwest Florida that have been pumping out Facebook bs since 2021. The hurricanes that rocked us here in FL back 2 back were man made to swing FL blue because according to them, the red vote in Florida, a battleground state, would be wiped out by the man made storms

I have a FAR FAR left relative, who worked for the Obama campaign, was apart of the Northam controversy in Virginia as she was working in his office, and even had a governor or senator make improper passes which drove her away from politics at the tail end of 2019 to teach Yoga classes.... (in hindsight it was a good time to take a break). She is on IG now as the election comes closer bashing her mother, father, and others who she believes are voting for Trump. She says things like "My mother has made a devastating political decision with her vote, she is voting for a man that wants to kill me, her daughter" She says this as a white 34 year old former politician who lives on Miami beach and teaches Yoga.

I see both sides and to be honest I only explained this to give a personal bit on why I said what I said about side vs. side. I can see it here too even tho majority here is left leaning, when someone speaks against the norm here they get a gang of users to shoot down their thoughts. However, quite frankly your post is only adding to what I was saying about people pointing fingers while we head to a boiling point i.e. the last line of your post.

All politicians do this however with Trump frequently spewing racist and fascist bullshit, it has been the auto reply for the GOP over the past decade who need MAGA voters to ensure they can win elections.

and not to pick on you cuz I appreciate what you do here, but again, like i mentioned above:

Why are we concerned with jokes made by a comedian who was almost cancelled for mocking chinese people a few years ago. (I am assuming this is about Tony Hinchcliffe's Puerto Rico joke) He goes for shock factor everytime he has a microphone. The distractions from what matters is insane

Extremism on both sides of the political divide is nothing new. The internet and social media has just both shined a light on it and magnified it ways we haven’t had to deal with before. The biggest difference and the reason that I don’t necessarily agree with the “both extremes are equally as bad” is because of where each parties figureheads fall on the extremist spectrum. Trump embraces the the most extreme views whereas Harris (Biden, Obama) all likely hold more liberal views but govern more to the middle, often to the ire of the more hardline left. There IS a centrist party. It’s the Democratic Party. The only portion of the country not being represented in our government currently is those on the far left.

Recently, it’s been the GOP’s stance to say what Trump has said was taken out of context and this is what he meant. The awesome thing is that then Trump gets asked and goes, no, no, That’s what I meant.

But that’s Trumps whole thing. He doesn’t have any sane policies. He had to disavow his platform. He has to distract because on policy he’s toast.

My buddy who works in elections is convinced Harris has this in the bag, especially after the PR joke.
I think she does. She's comfortably ahead in PA, MI, and WI. And if she wins those three, she's at exactly 270 and it's over. I think she also takes NV too. Juries out on GA, AZ or NC, but if energy and numbers are underestimated as they seem to be, she could clean up.

Meanwhile, NBC found Union Workers (UAW) in Michigan that said they were life long Democrats and will be voting for Trump. They feel Trump is the better candidate for them as the Democrats policies are not working for them. They feel they have been completely ignored by democrats, and what's important to them jobs and salary. They are sick of plants closing and work shifting to other countries. And have seen stagnation of wages for years. They feel Trump is their only hope. Yet he has no policies and nothing he has spewed about will help them with their concerns.

I agree with this except I think she'll take Georgia. If it went for Biden last time, it should go for Kamala this time due to sheer demographics. Of course, the fuckery the GOP has done in that state could stand in the way. I think Trump takes Arizona and maybe Nevada. I think the influx of people from red states to both could flip those back. Nevada I could see being a reaction to inflation and fear that tourism will drop more if prices don't come down more. I'll believe NC going to her when I see it. I just feel there's too much old South there to vote for a black Democrat female.

To Renegade's post about UAW people. I think you're going to find some of that but it will be counteracted by former Trump voters crossing over because they just can't pull the lever for him any longer. Either due to Jan 6 or his rhetoric. I do feel there is a subset of GOP voters who do put country over party.

As someone who's far left, no one who is would have worked for Obama. There are extremist Democrats, but they're not leftists. They're more like an extremist center. Not trying to do a purity thing here, it's just the fact of the matter that Obama wasn't a leftist any more than Hilary was. Bernie is the most leftist and he'd be considered center left in most of the world.

This isn't about purity, but demonizing the left for actions taken by Democrats and their supporters just plays into right-wing lies.

He was kicking off a 5 hour rally where much hateful rhetoric was spread. Shining a light on that is important. He wasn’t working a second set at the Laugh Factory.

Obama's, and the democratic party at large's co-opting the idea of "change" and then decidedly not doing that can be largely attributed to why we got Trump. Neoliberal bullshit leads to disillusionment leads to fascism.
