Political Discussion

Because that’s efficient and you know there’s no money tied up in revenue for those offices. I haven’t read the article you posted, but the hope is that a large number of people quit so they don’t have to do away with them.
That was my thought. Same thing a corporate would do to remove people who don't want to return to the office even if they were hired with that explicitly with the promise of remote only work.

That was actually part of the article. They hope to use this to get a number of people to quit and not have to pay unemployment benefits. That's the efficiency right there, not having to pay unemployment benefits as they would with a layoff.

A sizable number of federal employees said they would quit if they were told to return to the office 5 days a week.

Here’s the rub, lots of people say lots of things but then do completely different things when the chips are on the table.

Seems so weird that he'd be walking around with the gun.

Luigi Magione was no rocket scientist.

His politics seem all over the place. A bit of a Libertarian who left a fairly glowing review of Ted Kaczynski Unibomber Manifesto.

As many have said hatred for Billionaires, Insurance Companies, and CEOs know no political ideology.
He was into a bunch of”anti-capitalist” stuff too. Which you know is communism, socialism and the Left.

So he goes into Central Park and doesn't think to toss the gun in one of the many lakes there?
I don’t necessarily blame him for keeping it. Especially if it was legally obtained. But… carrying it around with him, along with his “manifesto?”

Dude….. you got away!

Yeah, no straight through line for sure.

It will be interesting who takes him on as a boogeyman/mascot, the Left or the Right. Prior to his ID I woulda said he was gonna end up in between Marx and Che Guevara on The Lefts Mount Rushmore but now it seems a bit murkier.

Would love to see both sides claim him.

Is it just harder to be DB Cooper now or are people just dumber?
Both. I think if this case proves anything it’s that if someone had a bit more foresight they probably could have, if not gotten away with it, at the very least gotten close. Had he ditched the gun and ID, and not spent 10 days in the city prior getting his face recorded, he could have made this much harder. Especially post Covid where it’s become completely acceptable to walk around in public wearing a mask over a portion of your face.

Ultimately it was an elderly person at McDonald’s who dropped a dime on him based on recognizing his face from the news. Not some techno super detective work that lead to his capture.

If we had DNA forensics and cameras everywhere 1971 I think I would have been much harder for DB Cooper to have disappeared.

I think with AI and surveillance being everywhere now, it will be a lot harder to be a DB Cooper. That also doesn't take into account everyone has both a recording device and access to massive amounts of information versus in the past. I'm still trying to understand why you have to show ID at a McDonald's?

He didn’t show ID at MacDonalds. The guy at MacDonalds recognized him.
