Political Discussion

One of my coping mechanisms over the last four years has been to curate the moments of the Trump presidency that were purely funny - not funny but also horrifying, which was most times, but funny and also basically harmless. The McDonalds national championship luncheon was probably the best example of the form, but this whole Four Seasons Landscaping thing is a hell of bit to go out on.

and note i will be critical of bidens presidency because he is not going to be a progressive candidate (he is milquetoast centrist), and i would rather have had someone like bernie or warren (or AOC who i will be voting for in 2028). so i will not be positive towards biden... just because he is not trump doesnt mean he is on the level of a roosevelt or a JFK
FDR, who put Americans of Japanese descent into concentration camps and cut black people out of the New Deal? JFK who didn't believe we should have been in Vietnam, but escalated our involvement and approved the use of napalm and Agent Orange?

Every US president deserves criticism and constant pressure to do better, as do all of our congressfolk (and even local governments).

Here’s how I’m choosing to look at it on this Saturday night:

12 years ago, many of us (I actually think most of us, but I’m making allowances for those of us who have retconned their own memories) voted for a candidate who we hoped would deliver a transformational presidency and usher in an era of true progressive governance. What we got instead was basically more of the same in terms of policy, but with no small measure of dignity and thoughtfulness returned to the office following the reign of a buffoon.

This time, we’ve voted for a candidate who promised only to return a measure of dignity and thoughtfulness to the office following the reign of a buffoon, and who many of us expect to deliver more of the same in terms of policy outcomes. Who knows what we’re going to get.
