Political Discussion

Yep, agreed. Certainly not enough, but I think going for what's politically viable at this point is better than nothing.
They've campaigned on 2k checks for weeks. Why does political viablity come into play when they finally have both senate and house control?

They can shift the goalposts however they want, but the optics are terrible, and if we get 4 straight years of this, we are royally fucked.

I agree the optics are terrible, but all they did was keep saying they wanted to do the same thing, $2k stimulus, and didn't bother to change the number they said after the $600 went though, which is why the optics are so bad, because people just heard 2k. I really don't see this as pulling back. Not pushing for more when we should, absolutely, but in my opinion this is just them being stupid and not switching to saying "$1400 more" after the $600 went through, probably because they thought that wouldn't sound great. Every breakdown I had heard from then until now seemed to expect the $1400 though. I mean, even Bernie is still calling Biden's plan $2k (and most of his comments on twitter are mad about it).

I don't have much optimism about the next 4 years either, but I don't think this $1400/2000 is a significant bellwether. I'm more dissappointed he didn't call for a lot more with respect to stimulus/aid than either amount, personally.

This is horrible to say, but I have a Black Lives Matter shirt that I haven’t worn outside yet. I’m totally ashamed that I haven’t.
it's horrible that Black Lives Matter is something that causes outrage and that anti-racism is politicized and falls on party lines in the country. no problem wearing anything in support around my city, but I finally bucked up and wore this around conservative family. no confrontation, but a face was made when one asked me where I got it.

there’s a top reddit thread today about the number of parents warning their kids ‘something’s coming’, and i thought of this post.

They can campaign on it all they want. If Congress doesn't have the political will, it's all moot. I think their hope on the trail was they'd have greater control of the Senate and wouldn't have to rely on Manchin playing ball, which he's already said he's not going to.
