Political Discussion

Great, as if we didn't need to worry about more happenings around the world...
Not to dissuade you from worrying about a nuclear apocalypse, but DPRK has for years been provocative with their missile tests - conventional or otherwise. Usually seen in reaction to U.S./ROK exercises, diplomatic announcements, and/or DPRK desperation to effect the political atmosphere.

DPRK is not my area of expertise, but I read reporting regularly enough that I seldom reach for my bug-out bag with them.

In a remarkable reversal that will affect the fortunes of many student loan borrowers, the U.S. Department of Education has quietly changed its guidance around who qualifies for President Biden's sweeping student debt relief plan.

At the center of the change are borrowers who took out federal student loans many years ago, both Perkins loans and Federal Family Education Loans. FFEL loans, issued and managed by private banks but guaranteed by the federal government, were once the mainstay of the federal student loan program until the FFEL program ended in 2010.

The Proud Boys has split into two factions: “National” chapters that still recognize the group’s U.S. leaders (a handful of which have been arrested for participating in the riots) and “Standard” local chapters that reject those leaders. Both groups have accused the other of racism, pedophilia, and harboring federal informants.

The split began with the revelation that Enrique Tarrio, the group’s national “chairman,” served as a federal informant on cases before the Proud Boys group formed. Some Standard members feel that Tarrio led the group into disgrace by involving them in the riots. These local chapters said that individual groups should have more autonomy to avoid government informants who have infiltrated the organization.

Watching all these racist fascist misogynistic pedophiles find out they're racist fascist misogynistic pedophiles is pretty neat.

This actual conversation with a coworker happened today because I walked by and he was listening to Newsmaxx or something and I heard "Here's how you can help Herschel Walker..." and I laughed. I usually don't engage but I'm a little fired up today after this same guy told me earlier "The illegals made it up here. I just saw two at the bank!"

So anyway, I laughed and made a comment about Walker paying for an abortion. He glossed over that and then this...
Him: "Life begins at conception. Period! If it has a heartbeat it's a life!"
Me: "I believe at conception it's just a cluster of cells, no heartbeat."
Him: "So are you! How would you feel if you were aborted?"
Me: "I wouldn't know."
Him: "Or if all of us were? Women need to stop treating their p-----s like clown cars! They can carry them then donate them or sell them or whatever."
Me: "I mean, men are partly responsible too, right? I just kind of want to stay out of other people's business"
Him: "60 million kids murdered every year, and those jobs are taken by illegals."
At that point I walked away...and apparently he told a coworker "See? He knows he's wrong and can't win the debate, so he just walks away!"

I guess he's right in a sense, I'm certainly not going to win an argument with him.

People should not be listening to political things while at work. I purposely don’t listen to these things out of respect for other people.

I totally agree. Most days I can ignore it, but today it just got to me. All I did was waste my breath and raise my own blood pressure.

This would be an HR issue where I work. The words they chose to use are not acceptable.

Oh man, what I hear at work would likely equal fire-able offenses in most companies. Being a blue collar construction company, there is SO much racism, homophobia, intolerance and misogyny. I've battled at times, ignored at other times...I'm on an island here so often.
Also, we don't have HR, just a 74 year old mother-in-law to one of the owners. The other owner I am close with, but unfortunately his advice is 'just get through the day.' Indeed, I'm counting the years to retirement.
