Political Discussion

Here is what Kevin McCarthy had to say on Fox News earlier this week about Inflation.
“Every American needs to be asked this one question: ‘Could you afford to give up one month of your wages?’ Ninety-five percent of Americans will say no. But that’s what the Democrats have taken from you. Because one month of your wages is 8.3% of your overall year – inflation is higher than that.

That’s why when you go to the store, eggs are higher. You‘ve got milk higher, your gasoline prices higher. It is the Democrat policies that brought that. That’s why in the Commitment to America, we will be energy independent, that lower your prices. We’ll take away this runaway spending. We’ll make America more productive to curve inflation, what
the Democrats have brought us.”

Notice how other than the call for energy independence, there is no mention that inflation is a global issue. No, instead the blame is solely on the democrats, their policies and runaway spending.

And sadly the republican base eats this shit up. The democrats are the villian and they are an angry mob.

After the SCOTUS overturned Roe it was looking like the democrats at least had a chance of not losing both the house and the senate during the midterm elections. But because inflation has been persistent and shows no sign of ending the tides have turned on the democrats as people favor republicans to run the economy and combat inflation. All polls are now showing a red wave, and no path forward for the democrats to maintain control of both the house and senate. According the the numbers, they are very likely to lose both.

As someone not particularly familiar with how UK politics work, is there any chance for a call for a general election after the last 2 PMs?

This is my question as well.
if i understand correctly parliament will have to majority vote for a re-election as the leader of the majority party is automatically the prime minister. So all other parties are calling for a reelection but the Tories got a solid majority in the parliament in the last general elections ( 2 years ago) . Now the torries are polling abysmally bad which means they are unlikely to vote for a new general election because a lot of the mps would lose their jobs. So what they are trying now is to fast-lane elect a new leader/ pm till october 31st.

PS: I guess if members of parliament would admit their mistakes, apologize and ask real nicely, i guess Boris would take his old job back

They should but there is no compulsion on them so they won’t because that bunch have zero morals. They won such a massive majority in 2019 that until the parliamentary term ends there is no way for the opposition to force the election, they’ll survive a confidence vote because they have the numbers. Yet another damning indictment on the fucking idiocy that was the Corbyn leadership of Labour.

and given that 10 days was the mourning period for the queen where politics basically paused this is very short. will be interesting to see who the ories will come up with next

The shortest by a distance. The nearest two are a guy who died after 100 odd days and the fella who over saw the Suez disaster in the 50s, he lasted 363 days. It’s just so depressing. I also just really, as much as violence is wrong and all that, want to punch Rees-Mogg in his smug face as hard as I can…

Damn, it will be hard to see a worst floating dumpster fire of a leadership than this. I don't know much about UK politics either, but enough crazy tidbits made it over here to see that this dumpster fire was flowing down waterfalls from the start. I suppose moving away from this as fast as possible is best for the people, but if that's the best the tories could do last time, what could they offer now?

I just applied for debt forgiveness, I think. I don't know. The damn daily newsletter from work said I had to apply by October 31 for the Public Service LF. I hit a link and filled out a very short form. It was a much quicker process than the crap that MOHELA sent me to that I could not make heads or tails of. I may have just signed my life away in a work sponsored phishing scam...

Yea I applied through a link sent to me by a activist. It was so simple that I had second thought about if this shit is real.

I think they’re cutting out the party members this time. The last time the MPs zeroed it down to 2 and the membership picked the one. The Tory membership is like the zany extremist corner at the weird right wing church hall coffee morning that is the Tory party at large. The MPs will pick a much more savvy political operator but whether they will be eaten alive by the right wing again is another matter altogether.
