Political Discussion

Just a thought, if the rule of law doesn't matter to Republicans anymore, why should it matter to anyone. So many bootlickers defending him. This is a state case with a New York jury not a federal trial, Biden had nothing to do with it. Could it be partisan case on Bragg's part? Absolutely, but so is our Tennessee general assembly. They threw two democrats out of the house last year for coming up to the podium when they were not recognized. Majority rules bitches and it sucks when you ain't running the show sometimes.

So for the president, a limit of two years less service than the actual current limit, but with no mechanism to change it after four years (like there is now)? The dilemma you're describing is because the American two-party system is inherently broken and anti-democratic, not because of a lack of term limits.
I think you are missing the main point I am articulating. The single term will force the elected official to concentrate on doing the job, not thinking about re-election. A further rule could be considered that if said individual wants to run for a different office, a 2 year wait is required.
Regarding the 2 party system, you don't have 2 party voting in states that allow "Jungle" primaries. That benefits the majority party by allowing voters to crossover and get a less viable candidate through the primaries. Requiring runoffs of top 2 candidates in general elections if no candidates exceed 50% of the vote would also be helpful. In 1992, Clinton secured 43%, Bush 37.4%, and Perot 18.9%. Would Clinton have won in a runoff?
Yes, we have problems but so far still in business.

With the amount of money in the system it’s more open to corruption, less time to line pockets and secure that private sector “consultancy” when out of office. It’s also open to the powerful lobby industries planting candidates with enormous election war chests. Until campaign finance is sorted all this stuff is window dressing.

Non incarcerated felons can vote in a number of states including Florida so he will be able to vote.
Correct. Florida’s law is that’s felony conviction in a state that doesn’t cause you to lose your voting rights there, will not cause the felon to lose their voting rights in FL. NY doesn’t strip voting rights, and since that was where he was convicted, he won’t lose them in FL.

Something that may come out of this, Trump voters will have to own up to the fact that they don’t care about what they claim. Trump’s a convicted felon, who was found guilty of covering up an alleged affair with a porn star months after his third wife had his 5th child. Trump’s business’ have gone bankrupt six times. His business has taken a huge loss in court and has a ~$456 million in fines. Trump was found liable of sexually assaulting and defaming a woman for ~$85 million. His charitable foundation was shut down after it was proven in a court of law to be repeatedly engaged in fraud. His “university” was shut down after he settled for $20 million. His longtime CFO is serving his second stretch in Rikers for criminal acts, including perjury, covering for Trump. Multitudes of advisors, lawyers, cohorts of his are have been indicted, some found guilty, at least one currently in jail. For acts involving Trump, and his attempts to cling to power. His 3rd wife, and 3 of his 5 kids, never came to the court during his trial. Trump has stated his love of revenge in his books. Of skirting rules. His former Chief of Staff has shared that Trump thinks people serving their country, or dying for it, are suckers. Trump claims to be persecuted but took out a full page ad advocating for the death penalty in the case of the Exonerated Five. He lied about a hurricanes path and drew on the official map of its projected course with a sharpie instead of owning up to a mistake. He has shown no loyalty to his party. His first wife accused him of beating and raping her. Many other women have come forward with stories of sexual abuse. He has bowed to dictators and belittled out allies. He lied over and over and over again during his presidency, including to the public about the pandemic.

Trump isn’t a family man.
Trump isn’t a religious man.
Trump isn’t an honest man.
Trump isn’t a good businessman.
Trump isn’t a good citizen.
Trump hasn’t shown empath for others.
Trump has cost this nation millions.
Trump’s policies have cost many lives.
Trump isn’t good with finances.
Trump wasn’t a good president.

This is all known. And repeatedly been demonstrated and proven in court. So, if people try to claim he’s a good Christian, family man, businessman, they’re either lying or intentionally ignorant.

Jordan Klepper was on Ari Melber’s show recently and shared a story of a woman who, when confronted about Trump and her beliefs seemed to be shocked, but ultimately told him, “I don’t care.” So, as we go through this never ending campaign, we shouldn’t listen to the people in the diner or the priest at a conservative church or school. In reality, they’re that woman that Klepper interviewed. They don’t care.

If you do, and don’t want more and maybe worse Trumpism, then vote. For a candidate who has a chance of winning.

This week at work, we had a 1 hour team meeting turn into a debate about student loan forgiveness. This meeting is supposed to be show and tell on things we are working on and talking about new tech, but we didn't have much to talk about after the long memorial day.

The meeting started off with people asking each other what we did over the weekend and one of my co-workers mentioned he spent the entire weekend applying for Biden's one time adjustment to student loans that will provide forgiveness for people who now owe more than what they originally borrowed by wiping out interest that has been tacked on over the years.

Another of my co-workers, who is a tail end Gen X responded by saying he's against any kind of student loan forgiveness and it set the state to debate back and forth with him the entire hour.

His main gripes against any type of student loan forgiveness was the fairness of it. He kept saying over and over that he and his wife busted their asses off to pay off student loans early. There is no forgiveness for them, and it's not right to give it to others who took out loans for more than they could afford to pay back to likely get a useless degree such as phycology or art history.

Me and my other coworker tried to sum up what lead the the student loan crisis, and how it's a policy issue, not a matter of personal responsibility. How are generation was expected to go to college and for many of us, it wasn't an option, and that many of the people who got those useless degrees came from affluent families and don't have student loan debt. He didn't seem to believe this and kept looping back to it in his talking points.

But, to this co-worker, it's very black and white, and always a matter of personal responsibility. The only policy issue is that we approve loans for more than what people can afford to pay back and that we should denny people from being able to get said loans. But it's still a matter of personal responsibility, these people who took out the loans should have known what they were getting into and have the common sense not to if they have no plan or path to pay back their loans. All are examples of people owing more today, such as the one John Oliver gave about the women who took at a loan for 80k, paid on it for 10 years paying 176k to date towards it and still owes 76k were dismissed with she should never have taken out that loan.

We also talked about how millennials have less wealth now than any previous generation at this point in their lives. That millennials are still paying off student loans, likely will be paying on them until they retire or never pay them off. And many have not started saving for retirement yet. He was very much like it makes sense, millennials have had less time than previous generations to grow their wealth than previous generations, show me hard facts and reports that show millennials actually have less wealth.

As for the current adjustments the Biden administration is making, they are not right or fair because the terms of the loan should not be adjusted after you take them out. That's not right. If the loan was taking out with the terms that interest could be forgiven at the beginning then that's okay, but they should never change the terms of your loan after you take it out.

For a little background information on this coworker, he's left leaning, he's not a conservative in any means. A believe either his parents or grandparents immigrated from Armenia.
