Political Discussion

Yeah, we get all the hippies and Non-MAGA tech bros up here.

Lots of folks don’t realize that more people voted for Trump in California in than voted for Trump in Texas in 2020. California could be competitive if the GOP ever ran a non-insane candidate for statewide office which isn’t a likely scenario at this point.
They would have to get rid of the Jungle primaries in California first in order for a General Election electable Republican to make it through the primaries.

Or people could stop voting for the most extreme candidates and coalesce around someone who is actually electable. I know that in the current state of politics this is unlikely but Vermont, Massachusetts, Maryland Republicans seem to have at least partially figured it out. The GOP are still in crazy town here in Washington. There is one Republican that might stand a chance in our upcoming open Governors race but the rank and file are all lining up behind a hardcore MAGA candidate (who’s also been convicted of bank fraud and is a convicted felon), Semi Bird instead of the former King County sheriff, Dave Reichert, who solved the Green River Killer case and has been elected to Congress multiple times in a swing district. I don’t know if we would win (I would never vote for him) but he would stand a far better chance than the nutjob felon.

Housing is considerably cheaper in the Virginia Beach or Charlotte NC area. So I'm explorer some options there.

I get get a 2 bd room 2 bath apartment for about $500 less than my 1 bedroom in Salem. And $1,000 less or so for a 1 bedroom.

Are townhouses or condos a path I should also explore?

Even with HOA, these come in cheaper than my current apartment. However my mother says I'm out of my mind. No bank would approve me for any loan/mortgage because of my student loans and the fact that I have nothing saved up for a down payment. Are those blockers, or is it still worth exploring?
In certain cities around Florida including parts of Tampa they will give you up to a 15k grant to cover the down payment and closing costs of your first home. All you have to do is put down 1000, for something that I can't remember at the moment, but I'm pretty sure u get it back after closing. Also you have to have like a 660 credit score and attend a first time homebuyer class that last 8 hours lol

As I see it, you have nutcases in both major parties, then you have groups in both parties that play "both sides of the street" to get the votes, then another group that focuses on a policy bid that may or may not get them enough votes - mostly not. Can you begin to see my "one term" enthusiasm? What a joy to remind them to "hit the road mother fucker" at the end of the term.😂

Read the article, don't believe anything described will occur in the unlikely event Trump gets re-elected. Just another article to get folks stirred up. The Washington Post is going to be anti-Trump and GOP - the opposite of what Fox News does. You can't blindly believe any of them. What I do believe is any given President might get a salvo or two going that is unconstitutional, but it will be stopped before getting out of hand.

I imagine people said the same story of things when Hitler was democratically elected. The Heritage Foundation has been angling for this kind of thing for years and is one of the most influential right wing think tanks. Not taking seriously what they say that plan to do is what continues to push the country to the brink. And that whole two sides things is a vapid argument. One side is embracing fascism and authoritarianism, the other side (shitty as they may be at doing anything worthwhile) is not. There can be no "center" with those who want to revoke the rights of half of the citizenry. That center is just complacency that supports the erosion of democracy because it doesn't threaten them personally as much.

Agreed. I don’t think that there is any reason not to believe them.

In 2022 a 100k Californian’s relocated to Texas, 75k to Arizona, and 50k each to Nevada, Washington State and Florida. Thats a solid influx year-to-year.
the problem is, people keep moving here :(
