Pre-Order Thread

Copped acid rap and coloring book. Definitely expensive, but figured this might go the way of Frank Ocean's Blonde.

Also, zero confidence in VMP's ability to handle the demand for a release like this.

Why? They consistently have pressed 30K plus records. They probably made what 25K BIG, Fiona, and Demon Days ones each. Seems like your blowing things a little out of proportion. What's a realistic number of albums sold in this. 5K for each record? 10?

You do you. Patience is a virtue and it seems like people who wait may very well be rewarded (by either cheaper prices or a rare/exclusive colored press) but you can’t fault someone with jumping on something that is known as opposed to speculated. I mean if there is a huge gain from purchasing directly via VMP then I’d imagine there will be enough time to cancel the order from Chance’s store before they are mailed out “this Fall”.

I don't mean waiting for the album to be sold on vmp's site vs chance's. I'm not buying any of these. I meant the sentiment that because vmp is involved that somehow the release is going to be messed up. seems to me that without more info that all vmp did was design the product.

I'd guess 10Day 5K, Acid Rap 10K and Coloring Book 30K. That's probably low though.

VMP has a history of mismanaging or selling out releases way too fast. Queen, De La Soul, Weyes Blood, and now Method Man all come to mind. That I can recall that many instances is disconcerting to me. I don't want to be waiting at noon to pull off some swap manoeuvre.

Much prefer a clean pre-order process like this.

True, though VMP is likely doing more than designing, if they are involved I imagine they would likely be overseeing the production and distribution of the albums sold from his store. This combined with this seemingly being a new venture for the company (at least in regards to working directly with an outside store to sell the product) I would not be surprised in the slightest if, for example; due to poor communication between Chance’s store and VMP that the album was oversold the album.

While I agree that VMP involvement doesn't guarantee disaster it also wouldn’t instill confidence either.

You know that feeling when someone gets you a Barnes and Noble gift card, and you're like "what even are books anymore?" "Where is a Barnes and Noble store?" "How do I turn this plastic gift card into something that I want?" and then you remember that Barnes and Noble has a website, and sells vinyl, and you decide to run a few quick little internet searches on their website for vinyl albums you've been looking at, and you see that they have The Comet is Coming album for $18.04 and Bongo Rock for $23.74 and you start thinking, "Hey, a Barnes and Noble gift card is actually a great birthday present."

And then you get greedy, and you start searching for vinyl records they DEFINITELY won't have in stock, like Fiona Apple's "Idler Wheel" and "Extraordinary Machine," just because you're testing the limits of Barnes and Noble's apparent ability to satisfy your every desire.

And then you just casually happen to see a preorder link for Zero 7's "When It Falls" and you think "IS THIS THE REAL LIFE?!" and you double-check with the rest of the internet and see preorder links for the same album on Bullmoose and Juno, too. Rather than shelling out $181.70 plus shipping from Germany for an OG "VG+" copy on discogs, you now have the power to pre-order the album for $31.57.

These preorder links were published so QUIETLY, I almost don't believe it. And I may NEVER HAVE KNOWN ABOUT THIS if someone didn't get me a dang Barnes and Noble gift card for my birthday. What a world.

I knew this pre-order was happening but I don't know if I need it. Now if they'd ever get around to reissuing The Garden, THAT would make me happy.

Outkast. Nat Turner. 2 Anthology titles. They fuck up something every single month. Anyone who is wagging a finger at anyone else for having lack of confidence in VMP's ability to deliver, either isn't paying attention and/or doesn't want to, or is working for the company.

I never even would have considered Barnes & Noble, haha. I see they have a (small) selection of B&N exclusive pre-orders to boot, including a Stranger Things season 3 release. As an aside though, their website is hella slow.

I like Chance a lot, but these prices are way too steep for me to pull the trigger now. Has there been any indication that these are limited and therefore there is reason to lock in a preorder soon? I'm not seeing anything on this front, which is good, because I feel like I have time to consider what I'm gonna do.
