Pre-Order Thread

And @RenegadeMonster

A promise of nothing, but Plaid Room is taking a different tack with it. No pre-orders but sign ups for notification when they get stock. This may be worth signing up for.

I can’t help but think this will be widely available. Phoebe is huge and they could sell 10,000 copies of these not problem. It’s most labels dreams.

I agree entirely. It's possible the Indie variant will be decently limited (hers tend to be) but there's no way her label is letting the Phoebe hype going to waste by not keeping this as in stock as they can. Financial malpractice.

If it's like her other releases color version will be easy to get pre order but go out of control second hand. Even once it pops up all over the place I wouldn't wait too long to grab it if you really want it.

I think the black will just go wild regardless of colour presses, if any. Dead Oceans were pretty clear when they said that it was initially limited to 1,500 to RT. That always suggested to me that it’d get a wide release a couple of months down the track.

I have been a little surprised about the mass interest in Phoebe as she always seemed like a niche artist. One who fell aggressively into my niche of "sad women with an edge singing indie music", but a niche nevertheless.

It's also kind of rare to get an artist in that realm who is cool. Sounds sad to say out loud but usually the really great sad artists are relegated to their own universes unless they have otherworldly voices or a happy side they let out or they're, well, nerds or oddballs. That shifted a bit with Lorde and Billie Eilish in the pop realm but Phoebe is kind of a new wave of that. too, and she has great social presence to back it up.

(Edit: I think it's also important that she is a woman who is unabashedly open about her preferences and wants and feelings in life in a world and industry where women are often discouraged heavily from any of that. Like, take a look at "sad songs lists", it's rare to see a woman and it's even rarer to see a woman who is not singing about a man. She isn't immune from it but she's representative of a lot that the industry didn't traditionally support well)

Just a theory really. I was a couple years late to the Phoebe game (it was Lucy first of the boygenius trio for me), but it makes some sense.

And yeah, the number of 404s hard suggests to me that the theory above of a distributor screwing up release timeframes was very much on point.

My brethren! I thought for sure I was commuting social suicide by fessing up to my general apathy towards her music. I keep telling myself, “ELTON JOHN LOVES HER” as if that means I need to enjoy her music, but then I realize.... I DONT EVEN LIKE ELTON JOHN THAT MUCH!
Yeah, we should hang out. I also dislike (but respect) sir Elton.

Even if it’s an endorsement from a celebrity you love it isn’t always a good thing. I like St Vincent, but I went into her discography after Dave Grohl said something about how she’d be a great fit for a Nirvana frontman. I kept trying to fit her into that “heart shaped box” and wasn’t able to. It wasn’t until I gave her a listen without that connotation that I grew to enjoy her music.
