Pre-Order Thread

Aren’t they like actual real gnarly folk purists? I’m going after the twirly tash and foot stomping acoustic indie stuff that sorta all bleeds into one.
Yeah, They are indie music for nerdy Professorial types they make sweeping literary references and aren’t afraid of a harpsichord or a hurdy gurdy. They make music videos inspired by Infinite Jest. I would not include them with the Indie Folk Hipster scene necessarily but I would say they probably provided some inspiration.

One time I was at a free concert in the park. The first band was some new local band and someone I was with liked them, so we went to the front. At some point during their set I pointed at the guitar player and turned to my friend and said, "I can play 3 chords, why don't I think I'm good enough to play in a band?"

Anyway, that was the first time I saw the Head and the Heart.

Yeah I’ve heard bits of theirs and not minded it but I’m guessing that their singers voice isn’t going to gain huge amounts of traction in the pleasant easy to listen to and forget hit environment in which those others exist. Conversely I think that the character it gave might have been one of my favourite things about them.

One of my favorite "you're full of crap waruv" takes is that the difference between the Decemberists and the Mumford/Lumineers types is that if I caught the latter in a rainstorm it would kind of stink and not work nearly as well whereas the music of the Decembrists just stakes in deeper with it. There's an edge or sadness or a dimension there that some artists have and some don't.

Singing Ho Hey in the rain just feels like a bad sketch comedy moment.

Totally unrelated, seeing the Decemberists -> Death Cab in a downpour at Boston Calling is one of my Top 10ish live show moments ever so that may be influencing this a bit.

(Disclaimer: I don't exactly dislike Lumineer/Mumford types, but I have a preference for sure)

Yeah, I think it’s tough for most to dislike any of these bands, they sing tuneful and anthemic pop music. There just aint much there beyond the initial sugar rush. Which is fine with me. There will always be a place and time for type of music. That being said I also don’t think most are confusing it Bob Dylan or Pete Seeger either not that anyone on here is confusing the two.

I like the hipster folk stuff. I’m sure this is a surprise to no one. Mumford was fine till they decided they wanted to be U2.

The Hey Ho song, @Joe Mac, is either Lumineers or Of Monsters and Men depending on which one you are actually talking about.

Lumineers are probably my favorite of that stuff.

I googled it, it’s lumineers the one I’m thinking of. It was prominently on an advert over here which is why I was never quite sure who it was by. I know the name “Of Monsters And Men” but have not actual idea of what they are musically lol.

Did a cheeky $150 offer on someone who had it posted and it was instantly declined. I bet they re-lift for more than they had it at now 🙄
Yeesh. In all seriousness that sucks. I hope you can eventually find a copy for under triple digits. Maybe following this new re-recording some people will be willing to move on from their OG copies…maybe?
