Lee Fields - Sentimental Fool

Lee Fields is arguably the greatest soul singer alive today. In an age when the shelf life of an artist largely depends on posturing and trends, he has proven to be an unassailable force of nature. His prolific, decade-spanning career continues to reign supreme on the modern soul scene.

In early 2022, Lee reunited with Daptone Records and producer Gabriel Roth to record Sentimental Fool, a deep, blues-tinged, wholly-conceived soul album. From his first line to his final plaintive lyric, the beauty, power, and raw humanity of Leeʼs voice is on full display here; the culmination of an astounding career that has seemed to defy gravity, rising to only greater and greater heights.

I don't think I've ever told this story. Our last show before covid was Lee Fields at Union Transfer in Philly. A dear friend of ours flew down from Boston to be at that show and is friendly with Lee. We got comped tickets and ended up drinking backstage withLee & his band after the show. If that was gonna be my last show for 15 months, it was one hell of a way to start my hiatus.

Some friends and I would do a weekly zoom call during covid, catching up with eachother every Friday evening since no one could go anywhere. We had Lee join the Zoom call one week. He's such a nice guy and his wife and her sister are lovely. Benny Trokan played in Lee's band at the time, and obviously, he was backstage with us. He's been touring with Spoon this year and when we saw them in May, we had rail right in front of him. He recognized us (or more likely, he was laughing at our exuberance) Seeing Interpol / Spoon again next week in Asbury Park - hope Benny is back touring with them. His new single is great.

Unless it is The Gleam I or II, I don't want to know about it.

Really wish they would press the prior two.

I randomly remembered ordering the Tonic - Lemon Parade reissue, so dug up the email and just learned that Popmarket never sent it, and now it's 2-3 times the price on the secondary market. I guess I won't pre-order there again.
Yeah, that blows. I have had similar things happen, basically after a couple weeks past the release date still no email notification so I reached out to CS and they said it was delayed and it would be shipped on it’s in stock. Then all of the sudden the next day I receive a shipping notice. Weird how that works.

New but old Cowboy Junkies preorder. Giddy up, @Yer Ol' Uncle D .

The 1989 “lost” album, a one-mic follow up to the Trinity Session, called “Sharon.”
