I don’t know if there is enough Swiftees on here to really answer this question but here it goes:

What is the consensus on these “Taylor’s Version” releases? Do most prefer the OGs or are the new recordings now the definitive version of these tracks? Are there substantial differences between the two versions? I know diehards probably have both the originals and new versions in their collection but I would assume they would still have a preference, especially if there are substantial differences between the versions.

People have feelings, my dude. I mistakenly asked this to a group of Swiftie friends. I can’t recall any of them. But there were a lot.

I know she changed the lyrics in one of the songs on Speak Now to something a little less harsh when referring to another woman. My wife wasn’t a fan of that. If you’re gonna re-record, best to stay true to the source material.

She has also been getting these releases for the vault content mostly.

I understand why she is doing it and clearly she is still at the height of her talents. I have seen where older musicians re-recorded their hits later in life due to rights disputes but usually by that point the artists were a bit past their prime sound more like covers than what you were hoping for. With Taylor, I could imagine that some of her new recordings could actually sound better, especially with regards to her earliest albums; I would assume her now having full artistic control and world class production would potentially breath new life into this earlier albums. That being said if someone had been a fan since the beginning and grew up listening to those early albums, I could imagine that the differences might not be something that a fan would enjoy. Then when you get into here later albums where she seemingly already had completely creative control and world class production these recorded albums seem like they would be a bit superfluous.

I wondered if at some point she is able to wrestle the right to the OG recordings away from numb nuts Scooter Braun at some point and then released a career retrospective greatest hits album, would she include the new versions or the OGs, it’s a very unique circumstance she and her fans find themselves in.
