I think most fans (including me) think Shapeshifter is THAT album. First one is really fun. The second one is a lot better.
It's super shitty and disappointing that they'd cheat fans that way. And not even properly announcing it -- they just started adding it to their merch table a few weeks ago. It led to that gross $200 variant selling for $250 on eBay.
I've known bands that had to charge a ton because it cost them a lot to get the rights for a reissue, and this might even be one of those situations (they had to switch out one track), but $70 and $200 is a LOT.

Agreed. Mine are pressed great too on very quiet vinyl. I’d say the first album and Wild Planet MoFi pressings are definitive compared to originals, but originals also sound quite good.
It’s been years since I bought the MoFi pressings and got rid of the originals. Never compared Cosmic Thing to an original pressing though.
