Pre-Order Thread

In the forum-which-shall-not-be-named, we had a discussion about ordering the Doves re-releases, whether or not the Amazon UK listings were legit, or if should go through uDiscover. Well guess who just got charged from Amazon UK for the three Doves pre-orders? That’s right, I did!

DOVES DOVES DOVES DOVES!
Sweet, I ordered around the same time from Amazon UK so I’m hopefully looking forward to these!

Highly recommended

Burial - Claustro / State Forest
I got the bandcamp email this morning. I didn't even think about it. I was already purchasing it before I even hit the buy button lol. I'll seriously buy anything from Burial. I own his entire catalog including comps and remixes except for just two. I'm missing his Jamie Woon remix 12" and also the elusive Massive Attack remix he did.

All 3? I was only charged for 2 so far 😟

It seems that Lost Souls is still hanging in the ether...

bruhhh shut it down. who tf lol

The rest of the post is silly but this is just ignant shit
I was the guy he replied too. I was more commenting to try and get the point across that this wasn't an isolated issue of them overselling products, but I could see how it could be misconstrued to say that I support VMP completely fucking my Goodie Mob order up, just because they sent me Rico.

For someone who has never listened to Doves what acts would be a decent comparison

I wouldn’t compare them to other acts really. Whilst they are not hugely ground breaking and are very mid 00s U.K. indie they equally don’t really resemble another act.

I think uplifting downtempo atmospheric indie would be my best description.

Even after all the chants?!

It could be controversial but I always say they're kind of a mix between the Radiohead and Coldplay. They really have their own sound though. They get compared to Elbow a lot but they're pretty different.

As a starting point Lost Souls is the better album but The Last Broadcast is a little more accessible.

Yeah 100% disagree with this. I find them much more uplifting than both acts and, for me, their first two albums are streets ahead of any of Coldplay’s albums. They aren’t as good as Radiohead, who actually is, but equally I don’t see huge musical similarities.

I think the main reason I describe them that way are because they're 2 bands everybody knows. Kind of the pop songs of Coldplay with the experimental side of Radiohead.

You're uplifting atmospheric description was pretty good though.

I thought you were only ordering Lost Souls? Did the Amazon pricing change your mind?

Nah I was always all or nothing. I was humming a hawing (and to an extent still am...) about replacing half of a band’s discography on vinyl when I have it all on cd, particularly with 00-05 not being known as a period for its stellar recording and mastering techniques!
