Pre-Order Thread

Isn’t this group a pro-socialist one? I mean I identify with a lot of socialism marks as well, but these marketing tactics don’t seem to be aligned with their message.
What marketing tactics? Pressing his mom's ashes into his first record?

I mean, you're right, but I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't really thinking about it like that when they pressed it. It was a really cool idea, I don't think you need to blame Joe for not flipper proofing it. He clearly wanted fans to be able to participate, so I think that was a good thing, but it sucks that people bought it who don't give a shit about the gravity of the artifact, even if it was to be expected.
Oh I don't blame him in the least. I'm not mad about it one bit, I think it's really cool what he did and his reasoning for doing it. I'm just saying from a practical sense, more copies means more aftermarket sellers. I have no idea if he cares one way or the other if they're being sold. But I don't think I can just label someone a "flipper" who sold a piece of art 3 years after it was released, for its current market value. I mean if that was the case every painting in the world would only be worth the price of the paint and canvas it's painted on.

That's true. I guess it is easier to comprehend if some painter from 200 years ago put his mother's ashes into a painting it may be worth more. I guess it feels different since it is still so recent, even though it isn't necessarily.

sorry, I should have been more specific.I was referring to all the endless variants and what not that fetch a high price on a secondary market. There’s certain things that artists do that bode into a flipper culture and while I don’t see that happening on an egregious level here I do see some questionable stuff. Also I don’t know if a crazy secondary market is more anti-socialism or pro-socialism... but it just doesn’t feel right, like people buying a bunch of Che Guevara merch.

I don't see how a bunch of options catering to different peoples tastes is a negative in that context. As long as there's some resonable priced widely available options. Just comes off as trying to please everyone to me.

I think your argument makes a lot more sense for some of the people in the hip hop world who only do tiny limited releases and say they'll "never press again."

True. Some Hip hop releases have made me skeptical of artist intentions on capitalizing on collectors emotions. This band is such a unique case because they stand relatively alone in terms of punk groups that have enough of a following to do this many different variants. I’m used to my new punk groups having 1 or 2 vinyl options and both being sold and pressed openly witbout any limitation and for a cheap price. I’m sure a lot of it is on the label too.

Bullmoose exclusive as well.

Also going to be a VMP Exclusive as well of this. Blue with White Marble. It seems like VMP is now doing an exclusive of every Tidal Waves release.

Found out the other day that Real Gone Music will be reissuing another pressing of Walkin' My Cat Named Dog by Norma Tanega. It's not up for pre-order yet but should be in the coming weeks. For those of you who watch What We Do In The Shadows, you may recognize one of the songs on the album:

Thanks

3 was $8 and changed shipped for me
Yea...I applied for the Red debit thing after reading more about the benefits. I didn't want to sign up for another CC but the debit doesn't do a credit check or anything so I ended up going for it. I have to wait now though so things will probably be sold out by the time it's approved. That's a great deal though for ya! I'm mostly hoping that the people who ordered 10+ to flip don't red flag the order and make Target mass cancel!

Yeah. People always push it every time. It's why someone killed our hustle with the giant roll of subway stamps back in the day and the Pizza Hut "pizza passport" cards we photo copied.

My wife has the red card. It's the only extra credit card situation we have going, I believe.... and hope

New single?

Having hit her creative stride with Designer, one of 2019's stand-out albums, New Zealander Aldous Harding returns this summer with a brand-new track, 'Old Peel'. Released as a standalone, limited 7' with an alternate version on the B-side, 'Old Peel' has long been the song she closes her stunning live show with and news that it's finally being released will delight many.
