Wow, I'm surprised Zevon won this one. 10 additional tracks on a second disk as well. Anyone who has a passing interest in one of the greatest songwriters of our times should check it out. Bummer that they didn't include any mastering info, so I submitted an inquiry. Hopefully they respond.

Thanks! Please report back if they do.

GRANDADDY REPRESS!!!!!

“One night in June of 1999, we were sitting in Jason’s tiny house in Modesto, California when he mentioned that he could sit down at the piano and play the whole of what would be The Sophtware Slump front to back. This meant he was (finally!) ready to begin recording. The piano was in the kitchen then so we sat and he started to play. Distracted by beer and conversation, we didn’t make it all the way through.

Early last year, as we discussed if we should commemorate the 20th anniversary I recalled the memory and wondered what the album would have sounded like before all that wonderful production, before one note had been committed to tape.

Today we announce The Sophtware Slump…..on a wooden piano. Recorded at Jason Lytle's home during Pandemia 2020. It will arrive digitally November 20 on Dangerbird Records and as part of a four piece vinyl boxset of the original album and most of the b-sides and odds and ends from that era, many appearing on vinyl for the first time here. And a standalone physical release to follow in early 2021. Pre-order here: @Grandaddy | Linktree

Wishing you all as much health and happiness as you can muster during this often trying time.

With love from Jim, Jason, Aaron and Tim. And Kevin.”

I own Sophtware Slump on wax already but I am glad it’s getting reissued for those that need it. It’s one of my favorite albums.

This is such amazing news. I've had the Sophtware Slump Deluxe Edition (2011) repress in my discogs wishlist forever but I've really been holding out hope for a 20th anniversary edition, because of the prices for a new(ish) one are steep. I also already have the original on wax, like @TenderLovingKiller® mentions, but everyone, this 4LP collection is so much more than even that incredible album. They were in such a creative flow during those sessions that the rarities tracks on LP 3 and LP4 contain some of Grandaddy's best work, imo. Which is saying A LOT given how incredible the 11 original tracks on the album are! For example, "Wonder Why in L.A.", "I Don't Want Record Anymore", "XD-Data-II", "Our Dying Brains", "First Movement / Message Fade", "What Can't Be Erased", "She Deleter" and "Wives of Farmers" are incredible songs. AND, we get a full new LP containing never heard (as far as I know) piano versions of the original album's songs.

I am so excited. And while the price tag is steep, and I rarely buy expensive things like this, 4LP @ $20 each is reasonable at least. For me it's an instabuy, and I can't wait to spin this.

I still need to watch this series, but I'm a fan of Ben Salisbury And Geoff Barrow (Ex_Machina, Annihilation)

It's a bit spendy coming from UK with postage and exchange rate.

Might turn in my black copy for this. It will also be available at all independent record stores.
