My issue with The Great Escape is that I always found that blur’s most annoying trend was that their caricatures could tend towards obnoxious and felt that several songs on that album were full on obnoxious (Stereotypes and Country House in particular) and the mastering on it is pretty poor, it’s bad brickwalling, oh so very loud! The only song I’d save off it is The Universal, which is immense.
I disagree with you on Parklife, I think it’s inconsistent at times but Girls and Boys, End of a Century, the title track and, in particular, the epic This Is A Low, are better for me than anything The Great Escape,
That said out of the English trio Modern Life Is Rubbish absolutely smokes both for me in terms of song quality and consistency!
