Record Store Day 2022

Y’all I came on here because I was excited for the news. I just had my trip postponed due to snow and I wanted to come celebrate on here with the vinyl people because I’ve been so busy planning for that trip I wanted to apologize…

Now I know why I stayed away..
Wait.....come back! I'm imagining a world in which people wait in line for the music instead of the possibility they'll score the next after-market bonanza. (Full disclosure: I've been guilty of both.)

I'm happy for you (and other Taylor fans)! It's not my jam, but I don't begrudge anyone their taste.

The theory I liked the most and seemed to make the most sense was Folklore - Long Pond Studio Sessions. Material in the bank with long pressing times, lets her keep selling her TV's straight to consumers, and they can charge a real premium for it. With that said, I think nearly anything is on the table from Lover onwards in terms of RSD Exclusives. I suspect that she probably wouldn't do a new mainline release that day as she'd lose out on a ton of fun from her on D2C operation but options are vast otherwise.

Yes to both of these.

I'd also like to finally see the first Marc Ribot y Los Cubanos Postizos on vinyl
Instead of having the big wigs choose what should be reissued, they should poll the fans and record collectors.

I mean, yeah, I want that Scofield and DOOM, and Oysterhead, and a Sausage Riddles reissue, and of course some quality jazz reissues, and another Phish studio album or live release. But I'm also prepared to be disappointed with all the picture discs. I bet the record stores would also appreciate not having to sit on the "filler" for years and years. Some shops by me have crates of old RSD titles they just cannot sell.

That goes against my scenario where I buy the Ribot as marked down low-demand post RSD "filler" they overepressed

Granted there's all sorts of licensing and legal mumbo jumbo I don't understand, so this option, would never work.

Honestly, wouldn't you rather just be able to get those titles outside of RSD, anyway? The only Scofield A Go Go vinyl release I ever remember seeing was in South Korea or something, almost 10 years ago, and confused me when I saw it online. I couldn't tell if the listings were even legit and then it was too late.

RSD suggestions are often more about desperation; speculating whether it's the only chance you might ever see some of these reissues, or if the thing you want is one of the least likely to be selected.

Yes, that would definitely be my preference.

And you're are right about A Go Go. One S. Korean pressing. I always skipped over it on Acoustic Sounds back in the day because I was like, "$60! I'm not paying that, I'll just listen to the CD I already own." Now new releases are getting up there in price. Should have bought it for $60 back then.

I wasn't saying the Ribot would be filler, mostly referring to the picture disc 12 inch singles, and other novelty items.

I didn't take it like you saw the Ribot as filler. I was just joking about how RSD seems to work. Either that thing you want, but assume nobody else would, gets hyped up because it's on the list, or it's overlooked and buried in the mix.

I'm often calculating when it comes to Record Store Day. If there's a lot I want, I'm more likely to prioritize something that I want less, but feel there is a high demand for. I let the thing I like more, but expect nobody to give a shit about, sit, so I can grab it later.

That's where I remember seeing it, too. I told myself I'd track it down cheaper, or expected a US pressing to be inevitable. Nope on both counts

Cross post with the Jazz forum. A pretty good episode of The Vinyl Guide with several references to RSD in general and 2022 April……..

Don’t know if this is new news so sorry if I repeat but TVG podcast episode 322 is interviewing Lev Feldman. At about the 49 min mark, Lev indicated he is involved with 5 RSD titles. No specifics but he name dropped several including a new Bill Evans, Chet Baker, & a Mingus.

Great interview/episode

When do we think we can expect a RSD 2022 list?
RSD is still supposed to happen in April like it used to, right? When that was the case, the list would usually drop the first week of March. Wouldn't be surprised if it was delayed though given all the pressing plant backups

I keep hunting around every day for any leads I can find.
I know BF was disappointing mainly because I skipped for my now MOVED Disney trip....
Who knows this time around.
