Record Store Day 2025

I haven't really paid attention to this, any good jazz shit (specifically with my best pal Bill) that's worth braving crowds for?
the mono Monk meets Mulligan should be good. Pharoah Sanders Strata East should be good (but an acquired taste). didn't look at a ton of other stuff as I'm trying to buy less! Looked at the list when it first came out and noted down the very few I wanted to get and haven't looked again.

Yeah nothing that's all that enticing and I'd bet a dollar that Monk will stil be in my local in a year for half off

Izipho Zam, the Pharoah in question, is a very good album IMHO, but it has been available easily for a number of years. It's still worth picking up, but not worth an overnight stay in line or battling Tay's disciples in the AM to get it.

The new one is AAA from the original tapes, KG cut and RTI pressed. I think 1500 only worldwide. Part of the new Strataeast AAA reissue campaign. I have the first 3 and they are pretty much Tone Poet quality. Nice glossy jackets and great sounding pressings.

I’m hoping for Pharoah. It’s RSD Excclusive and only 1500 copies, so, in theory it could be tough. BUT, if Discogs is an indication, the 3 Strata East reissues do not seem to have sold like gangbusters (fewer than 50 “haves” for all three). Perhaps it matters that Pharoah is a bigger artist name than any of those three titles.

The only other one I know I’m buying is Nathan Davis - Happy Girl, but nobody’s talking about that one so I assume it won’t be too hard to find afterward even though it’s a very rare title and 1800 copies isn’t a huge press. By comparison, the Monk titles are 3k and 3.5k respectively.

I’ve generally stopped worrying about availability of RSD jazz titles bc there are so many and the mania has died down, but there is always an outlier that draws odd demand (Sahib Shihab last time)

I also may grab Sun Ra Foundation Maeght if it’s there and not insanely priced.

I’m 100% most hyped for the Nathan Davis. That has been on my wantlist for years

The albums are not out until the end of this month technically hah. April 24th street date. That's why there are so few people on discogs that have them.
are they going to be in record stores? SE has been hyping the hell out of them so I assumed most people would order from them online. But you make a lot of sense, and I hadn't considered that.

they will be in stores. i think at least 2 of them are on amazon so far. but only the mack avenue online store has accidentally shipped out the titles before street date because they drop-shipped those from redeye. i imagine they realized the mistake and if you bought from them directly now, you wouldn't get them for a few weeks. don't imagine a ton of people bought from them directly (or even knew that you could).

Interestingly, I saw that Sahib is getting a wide single LP release from ORG. Should be the same as the RSD but just without that 2nd disc.
